It will be a good battle of wills if they ever get it together.. Wlad may meet his match against Sultan.. He is an awkward ******* when he wants to be..

I think I remember Ibragimov saying he didn´t want to stay in boxing that much longer and his relatives or his wife were pushing for him to retire so he´d keep his health.

If this is true, taking the big money fight with Klitschko right now does make sense (even if he can probably expect quite a bit of hurt to come to him in that one particular fight)

    What's Wlad like against southpaws?
I mean, apart from the obvious Sanders debacle...any others he's fought?

not a bad year 2008 will be.

im going with wlad by stoppage. when depends on how tough sultans chin is, and also how much defensive movement he uses.

after that fight it wont be that bad because wlad will have to fight povetkin and thompson.

thompson is solid but is missing that little extra something. povetkin looks a threat, but i think he is getting into this match waaay too soon. not that an extra 5-10 would help him any more.

the reason i didn't mention chambers is because of his very close win over a heavy brock. brock was slow, heavy and cruised at the end of their fight thinking stupidly that he had the fight in the bag. even if he did, it's a stupid tactic figthers employ. anyway chambers could have lost that fight or gotten a draw. if he somehow beat povetkin, he would fair way worse than povetkin and thompson against wladimir.

he is a very poor man's version of chris byrd. and we all know how wladimir has bryd's number. that style simply is a disaster verses klitschko.

    2008:

wlad KO9 sultan (cause sultan tries really hard to avoid getting into a trading session, and occassionaly he will try to ambush wlad, corrie sanders style which wont work but will look exciting when he tries)

wlad KO6 thompson (wlad starts slowly like usual with the jab and then puts thompson away without too much excitement)

wlad KO10 povetkin (wlad plays it smart verses the versatile and tough povetkin. he throws tons of jabs and then starts dropping the right hand and left hooks in the middle rounds. povetkin will get inside sometimes and try to rough wlad up. might even land a few good shots but wlad will clinch to reset povetkin and continue to pound him from range).

great year for wlad fans, and good year for any heavyweight fan. and crap year for haters.

i think chagaev might try to unify with wlad in 2008 IF thompson or povetkin agrees to step aside money. either that or chagaev will be silent and just fight his mandatories for 2008.

if wlad does get chag into the ring 2008, will be his hardest fight.
wlad by late KO or UD. chagaev is quite tough but also does a few more things than povetkin who simply tries to walk people down.

Most fans are not up to snuff on what Ibragimov is about these days. When boxing thinks of Ibragimov, they think of an action oriented attacker who throws punches in bunches. That fighter has been MIA for quite some time.

Ibrgimov completely changed his style and tactics vs punchers....and it has paid off. Ibragimov is much more of a quick boxer type who takes calculated risks.

Ibragimov is not going to be able to beat Wlad the same way he defeated Briggs and Holyfield. To win, Sultan's going to have to go for broke.

I give Ibragimov credit for taking this fight. He could have milked the WBO title a bit more, but he want to be the #1 heavyweight in the world, and to do that, he must beat Wlad.

Wlad is on record saying he will end Ibragimov’s career. This is odd, as Wlad never says something like this in public.

Exactly. I think this will be similar to the Calvin Brock fight. It will take awhile until Wlad can time and figure out Sultan's awkwardness. TKO in 10.

I believe Sultan is being underrated here, he will be a tough test to Wlad and does have a chance to win this fight, although I'd still pick Wlad.

Anyway, I hope Wlad has a busy year.

After Sultan in February, he probably may defend against Thompson, to get that out of the way.

Then I see Chagaev coming into the picture bc he's probably gonna prefer a big profitable unification fight with Wlad to risking losing his belt back to Valuev on a not so rich bout.

Later on the year Wlad may have to deal with mandatories in Povetkin and Valuev, as long as they win their fights.

In 2009 he may see another unification fight against the WBC belt holder(Virchis, Gomez, Peter, Maskaev), that if Vitali fails to win it in 2008.

Watch how you toss around that word as an insult, chief. Im pretty sure if we met in the ring, I'd destroy you inside of 2. Then you'd be known as the guy that got beat up by a gay dude.

This fight sucks, its just going to another easy fight for Wlad. Iggy sucks, and Wlad will do everything possible to expose the weak WBO champion for what he is. I give props to Iggy for taking this fight, but I think hes taking the Brewster route on this one, get a nice big pay check and retire.

:-( Who cares how competitive or not the fight is? I certianly don't, and not many others do, either.

Its all about cleaning up the division and getting the once great heavies back in their feet by bringing the fractured title back together agian, to where the term champion, means something. As it is now the term champion means little to nothing, and hasn't for the last several years.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why you can't see that, unless its just that you hate to see Wladimir being proven to be the best heavy out there.

Heavyrighthand- I told you many times already that Wlad is the best in this weak Heavyweight division, but he is fighting the worst of the 3 belt holders and the title holder with the least chance of giving Wlad any trouble. I would rather see him in there with Andrew Golota than Iggy, I could see why the WBO is the most laughed at title.

Even if Wlad wins another title, the average guy still wont know who the hell Wlad is. The heavyweight division as a whole sucks, yes there are a couple good fighters like Wlad and Peter, but thats not enough to get peoples attention anymore. Back in the 90s there was at least 10 name fighters people could identify with, now theres only 1 or 2.:-(
