The Foreman loss to Ali in 1974 had little to do with stamina. Had Big George had better stamina, he was headed for a UD loss instead of a KO. Ali was ahead on points at every stage of the fight, almost from the opening bell. Ali over Bowe by UD.
Bowe who won title off Holyfield was well conditioned and had superb boxing and infighting skills. This was not the vintage Ali and if Eddie Futch could work out a way for Joe Frazier to defeat Ali then so could Eddie with Bowe. A disciplined Bowe follows Futch game plan to the tee and wins on pts.
Futch was a good trainer but is also one of the most overrated. He was convinced that his fighter, Spinks was going to beat Tyson too.
Futch and Joe Louis used to spar together as amateurs. Futch was a lightweight and Louis was a light heavyweight. Futch said he used lots and lots of movement during their sparring sessions
He would say that. Most old timers like to exaggerate their stories to make themselves seem more important than they really was. I've no doubt that he had his picture taken with Louis while they were in the same gym but Louis sparring with a puny amateur lightweight? Lol. You hear Louis ever say that he used to spar with Futch? If it did happen the only 'lots and lots of movement' that Futch would have used was to run the hell out of the ring before the powerful Louis knocked him into a coma the first time he hit him.
Part of the Ali tactic was stay on the ropes static to tire george and foreman did not fail everything,a lot of blows did hit ali and it made a lot of damage and scored points. You are taking like if it was a walk in the park for Ali and he won every round... At the end of the round 1 Ali had the eyes of trevor berbick against tyson. ... Early in the fight when he tested the strength of george and his power He was everything except confident to win. Ali was a master but he had a very hard time beating Foreman it is why he never ever did talk about a rematch with foreman
i completely disagree with this. Ali had a great first round and couldn't miss with his right hand hammering George numerous times with it. He got in early and let George know he wouldn't be cowering. He hopped off his stool early between rounds and wound up the crowd. Ali was seldom lacking self confidence to say the least.
Which ones? I wanna see for myself, to see if they were as serious or as competitive as Futch who never turned pro, always tried to make out they were or if they were just fooling around with Joe not taking it seriously at all? It’s like today Joshua or maybe more realistically, Haye having serious sparring sessions with Amir Khan.
