Probably so. But the American press tends to destroy good fighters early with too high expectations. Remember Michael Nunn? He was not allowed to just win fights, when he started to fight boring fights they got on his case, even though he was beating up guys like Iran Barkley who now is a legend or at least a HOF fighter. That pressure then made Michael have other issues and distracted him. So my guess is Joe Calzaghe was allowed to sharper his skills and develop into a great fighter, sort of like Hagler was allowed to before the fame came and expectations went up. I think that being in England allowed Joe to be a great fighter. He could concentrate on his title more and not have to deal with clones like Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley through the years,- once the Americans discovered him he was already near the end of his career..

  7. He'd be in his fifth year working for UPS (United Postal Service).

But to his credit he'd be getting those packages delivered on time.

Wow, two whole pages before someone made themselves look like a twat by saying Calzaghe would have fought Toney if he were American! :happy

Unless you think a different birthplace would have enabled him to invent a time machine....?

If Cal was an American, he would have fought a lot tougher matchups a hell of a lot sooner in his career and we wouldn't be having this debate because he would have gotten whacked by RJJ and Bhops, and probably a couple others by now.

Calzaghe "WAS" and "IS" the best. If he were American he would be a hero here!

If Calzaghe was American he'd have about 5 or 6 loses on his record because he would have actually fought good fighter.

I think his resume would have been beter. Would have fought Lacy a lot sooner. 70 percent chance he would have loss his 0 to Hopkins. Probably would have face him when he wasnt ready. Almost lost his 0 to an old version of hopkins. All the other fighter he would have taken. He would have taken Pavlic's 0 easy, and fav to beat Dawson. Don't know y he didn't take those fights. Would have done wonders for his legacy.
