How fitting. You guys need to realize that being American doesn't make you charismatic or a better draw/fighter. If Calzaghe was American, he likely has to fight RJJ (much sooner), Bernard Hopkins (much sooner) and James Toney just to even get a glimpse of notice. I think he loses to Hopkins and RJJ but he'll handle Toney. Anyways He also isn't charismatic enough to bump his stock up any more than it already is regardless of what country he's from. He'd also have to deal with the fact that his style will ALWAYS be underappreciated. If he was American, He'd still be the same Joe Calzaghe...except probably with a loss on his record.
Well alright, the official line was he injured his hand twice. Which, with Calzaghe's history, is not exactly unthinkable! Anyway, point is there was a valid reason why he pulled out of the Johnson fight, and it wasn't because he was afraid of a guy who had lost to several fighters Calzaghe or his victims had hammered (Branco, Sheika, Vanderpool etc..)
What do you by this? Strong enough for what? I think you might be imagining accusations against your boy that nobody is making. Sure he'll get in the IBHOF. No he isn't an all time great like Roy Jones or Bernard Hopkins are.

what if tomasz adamek had decided to stay in poland from like 2005 to 2015 fighting mandatories....then decided hed like to fight bernard when hes 53...and roy shortly thereafter....while mixing in a fight with like a danish robot with no heart and a friday night fight fighter who was favored over him because hes never been challenged???
IF Calzaghe was American he wouldve lost already ... there isn't much saving you in the US ... you constantly have to prove yourself ... and no matter how good you are, there's always someone around thats going to test you. He wouldn't have fought in the US and been a successful supermiddleweight ... he wouldve had to move up or move down. He wouldve lost though --
Well whether it is the hand injuries, or the rumour that his head was ****ed at that time and he was in no state to fight, either are pretty valid reasons for me. If he didn't want the fight, why sign for it in the first place? A fighter at 168 offered a bout with a nothing special 175lber could easily say "thanks but I'm staying at 168 for the foreseeable future" without losing face. Nobody hammered Johnson (apart from Hopkins), you're misreading my initial post. However, Johnson has been beaten by several guys who have been hammered by either Calzaghe or guys he has beaten. Example, Johnson lost to Sheika who Calzaghe tore apart in five one-sided rounds. Johnson lost to Vanderpool who was stopped by Lacy (don't even get me started on what Calzaghe did to him). Johnson lost to Branco who Richie Woodhall stopped. Johnson split three fights with Woods who was clowned by David Starie. Calz was happy to take on all those fighters. So if you're asking me to believe Johnson had anything those fighters didn't then I find it rather a stretch. I'm well aware the A beat B beat C theory doesn't always work in boxing. However, where there are so many form lines it does suggest something IMO.
And who exactly has Adamek fought who has been any more challenging than any of Calzaghe's opposition? Or even as challenging? Dawson (and he lost). Cunningham. Who else? Briggs, Bell maybe, that's about it. Calzaghe has a dozen of those level fighters on his resume.
So, what do you Brits want people (Americans?) to say about Calzaghe? I'll gladly say anything if you'll just stop the persecution complex thing (even though I'm not American...)
