If Canelo doesn't take the rematch, who should GGG fight in the meantime?

Probably devenchenko get the mandatory out the way or maby knock out charlo

So I guess now to all the golovkin haters Charlo is next to beat golovkin after Canelo couldnt Charlo is the next great middle because he knocked out a glass chinned Williams who had not beat anyone of note and then went life and death with trout and then knocked out a fighter that shouldn't have been allowed in the ring golovkin beats Charlo down and the haters will be looking for the next fighter to beat golovkin

Charlo would be an acceptable choice, as would Murata or Derevyanchenko. Saunders or Jacobs rematch would be my first preferences. No point in a Lemieux rematch, he's still a top middleweight but he can't beat Golovkin as we've already seen.

If Saunders beats Lemieux, there’s a chance that he would choose to fight Triple G in a unification fight since he holds all the other major belts. Plus Golovkin had already shown that he can be lured to England to fight. Can’t see Alvarez been willing to go over there to challenge Saunders.

Saunders would be more than Happy to come to TX and NV for a Canelo payday.

Why not just go with it. Although the upside in letting this fight bake a bit more would be wise from a business perspective. Charlo is building a brand as is his brother. It’s likely that they could build the fight up to be a super fight a year from now if Charlo can get some top ranked guys to enhance is resume at 160. But since Canelo isn’t willing to do the rematch and ride the wave of the clamor amongst fans calling for it, Charlo/GGG is a good fight to hold us over until Alvarez and his team are ready. I think it would be a fun fight to watch with the contrast of styles

If his team has any sense they do Murata in Japan.

As a fight, though, guys like Dere and Charlo would be better.

Born fighter for sure....but it doesn’t look like he’s ready for the immediate rematch which could have taken place before the end of the calendar year.

G is next my friend. Loeffler has indicated that Golovkin is prepared to sit out until May for Canelo rematch . . . Why would Gennady risk the Mega-Rematch? Gennady is not training, he is not prepared for a December fight.

Gennady only fought twice in 2016. And those fights didn't come close to going 12 rounds. He took zero punishment vs Wade, and despite a relatively early stoppage after fighting Brook last September, he did not turn around and have a fight in December.

Why would he after going 12 rounds for the first time in his career twice, turn around and fight again in December when he didn't do it the previous year? As you get older, you should be fighting less not more. If he wants to have the best possible chance vs Canelo in May, he should recover and focus 100% mentally on Canelo. Fighting a Charlo on short notice could be a disaster. He could get injured, he could lose, so many possibilities that could derail the Canelo rematch. It's going to be hard enough for him to have to fight Canelo again, the last thing you want to do is put more obstacles in the way that G has to deal with between now and then.

I have no doubt the rematch will happen but just disappointed it’s not an immediate rematch.

Golovkin isn’t training because the immediate rematch isn’t an option for Alvarez...if it was both of these guys would have started training camp a few weeks ago.

The fight could have happened at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2018 since neither guy took any substantial punishment in their fight on September 16th. The Wade and Brook fights were not a massive event like the Alvarez fight nor was there a demand for any immediate rematch for those fights. It didn’t make sense to have a fight in December for those fights.

Money alone would be enough for most fighters to want to take the immediate rematch and GGG wanted it....Alvarez didn’t share the same enthusiasm to do it again so quickly.

Agreed as you get older you shouldn’t be as active but Alvarez is young...there shouldn’t be any reason to delay the rematch especially if the older fighter was ready to go.

I don’t think GGG is lacking focus, needing time to recover or worried about his chances in the sequel. His response to the question when asked if he wanted an immediate rematch indicated that much. It’s really a question for Alvarez? Why himself or his camp didn’t feel like the it was the right decision to get right back in there with Golovkin. It definitely wasn’t a financial or business decision to delay it.

The Charlo fight is only an option because the Canelo rematch isn’t on the table and for a fighter like GGG, he likes to stay active even at 36. I think it keeps him sharp and motivated. I agree taking an interim fight could derail the rematch with Alvarez but that’s the main reason why I don’t understand why Golden Boy and Canelo made the decision to delay the fight? Anything can happen in 6-9 months. They most likely won’t stay inactive until May...BJS and Lemieux are already being discussed as an “option” for Alvarez....GGG has Charlo as a mandatory. The immediate rematch made the most sense and it just has me a bit curious what the reason was for the decision

Oscar refused to allow Golovkin to fight Saunders for the WBO title as he plans for El Pollo to fight the winner of the Saunders/Lemieux fight, he lied to Golovkin! Golovkin will fight El Pollo when Golovkin is 40 years old! I don't expect the rematch to happen...........
