if cotto vs chavez happens chavez is getting battered

Not even close. No way in hell any competent rankings had Duddy in the top 10 at MW when he fought Chavez. Duddy had lost to Billy Lyell a year prior to that fight. You don't beat a bunch of bums, lose to a C level fighter, beat some more bums and get ranked in the top 10. It doesn't work that way.

 

top 10 dont necessarily mean top 10 tho does it, it means a decent level of opposition, more of an adjective than a factual statement. "he is a top 10 fighter" the loss to lyell was very close. it was a decent win for chavez anyways.

 

Chavez Jr is a big dude, and I think he is a lot more talented than the General is willing to admit. I thought his fight with Duddy was one of the most lop-sided fights I've seen all year, and therefore he clearly separated himself from that level of competition. He has good combination's, goes to the body well, and has shown in the past that he can withstand punishment. This won't be like Cotto vs Gomez.

 

Duddy is nowhere near a top 10 fighter. I would venture to say that he's not even top 50 at MW. He is not very good. Top 10 caliber fighters don't lose to guys like Billy Lyell.

stinging criticsm there. on one side, sylvester and many others have shown how shite lyell is. but on the other, people like duddy, who fight that style, are always gonna have close fights with people their size.

infact you make a good point there. lyell got a title shot off this victory, why should chavez jr be any different?

 

I agree with this^^^ I think Chavez will be competetive but Cotto is too experienced. They should hold on this type of opponent for at least a year. And im not underrating Cotto i still think he is a very good fighter, i just think you guys are underrating Chavez Jr. He just might have what it takes to be a champ in about another year.

 

I wouldnt blame Cotto for taking this fight. He has been battling elite welters for the last few years and just won the title. Throughout history Champions have taken "Gimme Fights" also this is a very marketeable fight this being the big Mexican vs Rican rivalry. There is money to be made here and Cotto probably feels this is a low risk fight high reward fight, he has proven his legacy and taking beatings time to think about his money and retirement. Cotto cant be fighting the Pacquiaos,Clotteys,, Mosleys,Judahs,Margaritos etc etc back to back.

But when all is said and done Chavez Jr will give him a tougher fight than most expect. Especailly Cotto

 

Cotto wins this fight very easily, I feel completely confident in this match.

 

I still think Arum ****ed up serving Foreman to Cotto before letting Chavez eat him up.
(Potentialy Jr. could have been fighting for JMW championship in Dec instead)

Then it might have made this fight a bit more interesting to the casual fan.

Me too, he has more talent than people think and under FR i think we will see him improve tremendously, physically and skill wise. ESB might be shocked by the time this fight comes around.

 

That is why I said in another thread that it does not make sense. Chavez, Jr. supposely is moving up and getting more recognition and Cotto is on the down slide. Something is not right here for this fight to happen. The fix could be in for Chavez, Jr. to win. Hopefully, it is on the up and up.

id actually be quite interested in this fight. god its sad to see how even on the forum its now about the $ and 'making sense' rather than a good fight. sure chavez jr is young and an up and comer but it's not like cotto is an undefeated #1 lmw
