I clearly said that I have Duran winning over those two.. But to say that its a 100% win for Duran is really absurd.. :smoke
Hey, I have Duran at #8 in my ATG list.. Broner is still green, and won't be fighting Duran in about 2 or 3 years "If" Duran was around today.. An upset for Mathysse is a possibility, even if the chances are low.. Cotto would have problems, but Manny would put a brutal beating on him, in a bloody fight.. :smoke To say that Duran's jab alone destroys them all is bull****.. :deal
Dude, just because you don't know the guys Duran beat, doesn't mean he didn't beat anyone. Here's a short list of notable guys he beat at 147 and below. Ernesto Marcel: As a novice and a kid still coming into his own, Duran took on the more experienced Marcel. He hammered and forced a stoppage in the 10th round. Afterward, Marcel would wing the Featherweight title and reign for years. Marcel's final fight was against the great Alexis Arguello, who Marcel beat in a 15 rd decision. Hiroshi Kobayashi: Longtime superfeatherweight champ who had reigned for 4 years. Duran KO'd him in 7. Ken Buchanan: Reigning lightweight champ, a clever boxer and counter puncher. Got mauled. Carlos Palomino: Welterweight champ for 3 years, during which he mae 7 successful defenses before Wilfredo Benitez managed to beat him by split decision to take his title. In his next fight he fought Duran, who beat him 9 rounds to 1 on all cards. Sugar Ray Leonard: Do I have to say anything here? And that's not even counting the notable challengers like De Jesus, Lampkin and Viruet he beat during his 8 year lightweight reign, the Jr. Middle or Middle weight crowns, giving Hagler a run for his money, etc. And you think Matthyse is going to give him a run for his money? :rofl
You need to lay of the sauce. Theres no way that slow ass fights like a ****ing mummy Pavlik beats Duran let alone stops him, Duran would have a field day with that drunk mummy.
Is there a fighter today better than Leonard at welterweight, or as good as Hagler at middle? Because Buran, after already having over 70 fights at lightweight or below, jumped to welterweight and beat Leonard there, then years later gave Hagler a competitive fight at middle. So who is around that you'd put on that level?
Duran fought at welterweight when he was still a lightweight. Marcel beat Arguello at 122, which should tell you something, and the two fights where SRL totally outclassed Duran are far more indicative of their true talent levels than the one fight where SRL tried to prove something macho. Hearns and Benitez also showed us where Duran belongs. For some reason, I'm guessing gay infatuation with his latin tough guy mustache, people just act like these fights didn't happen when talking about Duran, and Laing never existed. Obviously, I would put Pacquiao and Mayweather on that level, either guy beats Duran at ANY weight, and JMM would outpoint him comfortably. Hagler is overrated himself, made his name off fighting welterweights and lost to a welterweight. Hopkins doesn't lose to a welterweight coming off a three year layoff, PERIOD. EVER.
:good If Roberto was around, floyd & pac would be happy to fight each other, probably even a trilogy... in order to avoid the great Duran - fact
Maybe it has something to do with people not expecting a someone who started out below lightweight and already had over 70 fights and a dozen years as a pro fighter to routinely defeat ATG welters and jr middles. If I remember right, you're a Pavlik fan. Would you expect him to have 70 fights and then take on 3 ATG light heavies or cruiserweights and win? Who here expects Floyd or Pac to be challenging middles after their 70th fight? But hey, be as unreasonable as you want, explain that a fighter losing to guys that were younger and bigger than him means he would lose to guys that are his size or smaller and in some cases haven't accomplished as much as he did. (When was the last time that JMM defended a title for 8 years straight?)
This part actually made me But seriously, you really need to watch more of Duran at his best & learn more about his career, floyd, pac & JMM would get ****ed up, for real.
Duran would dominate lightweight, welter and very possibly middle as well as all the B.S j.r and super weight classes up to middleweight. Granted he trained hard and was focused.
Depends on your defination of elite fighters. What would the career path of been of De Jesus had Duran not been in the division? And you seem to massively inflate the second SRL-Duran fight by implying it was a complete blow out before the "no mas" comment. Do you even know the score on the cards when the fight was stopped? And since you frequently bring the Laing loss into the equation, you're obviously no fan of Duran, but what was his record leading up to that fight? I've been on these boxing forums for probably 10 years or more, and there's basically two Duran camps. One that appreciates that he fought he best, even if he lost, because he went to a higher weight division, and those how critize him for lossing to Hearns, Hager and SRL dispite his age and weight disadvantage. But when a Mayweather fan tries using these agruements they become ridiculous because because win or loose, Duran fought the best there was and didn't duck anyone. And the fighters who did give him difficulty were either bigger or younger, than him and often both.
