You seem threatened by the rise of the eastern European boxer. I suspect you're probably harbouring a racial agenda and feel the need to try and downplay their success and belittle them because it makes you feel very insecure. I'm sorry that you feel this way brother, perhaps you could should seek some form of comfort and solace to help you alleviate your burden. Try immersing yourself in the scriptures for a day or two or ask a loved one to give you a big hug. I shall pray for you brother.

Boxing isn't that big in Eastern Europe, and has always been something of an underground sport with no money. Considering that the number of talents which has emerged is overwhelming.

Though I do agree; if Eastern Europeans had been allowed to turn pro during the 80s, there would have surely been some big names.

that sounds like a pretty fair post. I'm in the minority on this board but I don't see why nationality is so important for most people. At the end is just two fighters with their personalities and their styles.

Well it's not a fair post. Heavyweight is the weight class(es) where Soviet or eastern block boxers have had the least success in the olympics so by picking heavyweight you essentially chose the data based on your conclusion.

There is another factor, as well. Soviet sent one boxer per weight class. With the split of the union "they" can send many more. And that's one of the keys to "their" olympic success since the break up of the USSR.
