Would his heavyweight ranking be a lot higher? I think this would be a terrific reign good enough to move him into top 10-12 all time 1949 June 22nd. Jersey Joe Walcott- Hall of Famer August 10th Jimmy Bivins- Hall of Famer October 14th Turkey Thompson- # 3 rated 1950 August 15th Archie Moore - Hall of Famer September 27th Joe Louis- Hall of Famer December 5th Joey Maxim- Hall of Famer 1951 January 12th Bob Baker- #5 rated March 7th Jersey Joe Walcott- Hall of Famer May 30th Clarence Henry- # 4 rated This would have given him a 9-0 record in championship fights, withh 8 title defenses, With 6 wins against hall of famers. The other wins being over some of the divisions most dangerous, best young contenders baker and henry(whom marcianos camp avoided). Both Henry and Baker were highly decorated amateurs as well. You take out the barones Oma's lessnevichs beshores and valentinos and replace them with the better fighters
Valentino had beat Turkey Thompson in his previous fight, he was the better choice for the Oct 49 defense. And I don't think beating Bivins and maxim even more times would add much. Baker and Henry are interesting, but fans don't want to credit Moore for beating these execellent youn contenders, why would they credit Charles, just forgotten guys to the mainstream, their loss.
Because 2 reasons. 1. They were non title fights and 2. not enough film of baker Henry. I posted baker vs henry on YouTube 4 years ago. Both fighters looked very good..Henry had a monstrous left hook..baker showed elite boxing skills
