Im not his biggest fan, some of his actions are unnecesary, and his way of backing his decisions up is at times pathetic, but i would give him MASSIVE respect if he beat Mosley and Pac. Hell il give him respect if he beats Mosley! There are people who hate Mayweather, no matter what, and there is absolutely NO POINT asking if they will respect him EVER. so dont expect to change people's views or see them change their views on him any time soon.
No, he needs to face and beat Margarito/Cotto/Clottey/Williams/Berto/Martinez/Pavlik and probably Vitali Klitschko for him to even be considered as an all time great.
Cherry picking? In Floyds last 5 fights he fought Judah and Baldo - I'm sure you are very well educated in that scenario and know it was not cherry picking at all. When the discussions to fight Judah arose Judah was linear, then Baldo beat him and became linear....so floyd beat both of them. You cannot "cherrypick" a LINEAR champion at WW atsch Oscar at 154lbs - Cherry picking????? Pac made Oscar come to 147 after he already lost to Floyd and Roach KNEW he was finished! Watch the double standard Hatton at 147lbs - Just because Hatton fights at 140lbs, does not mean he is BETTER at 140lbs, it just means his competition is easier mauled and bullied.....FACT! So Floyd fought a Hatton that was actually stronger then the 140lb version.....an undefeated Hatton at that. And there was HUGE demand for this fight at the time. Not Cherry picking! Use common sense. Hatton cuts from like 190lbs, of course he will be stronger at 147 then 140. Pac fought and beat him after Money already beat him too. Again watch the double standard. Marquez - This was a "cherry pick" but it was after a 2 year hiatus/retirement. Give the ****ing guy a break, and JMM WAS P4P #2 at the time.
he could leave the sport now with his head held high ANY fighter who wins a title in his career can leave the sport with his head held high.
Yea it is a short cut People will say he never fought Margarito Kosta Stzu Cotto Clottey Callazo Urango He can say he beat all the guys that beat them he cheated lol
that is true bit it's a hindsight gamble. If berto goes on to acheive next to nothing then it damages his rep. A perfect example of this would be Lacy and Kessler post Calzaghe. I guess we'll never know what those two could have acheived in the sport had they not have been so comprehensively beaten by Calzaghe.
Mosley may be 39 but he's still very formidable and very dangerous. If he were to beat Shane it would be a very good win. Manny Pacquaio proved that he can beat a legitimate welterweight when he faced Miguel Cotto. (yes Cotto was a 145) but If Manny beats Clottey as expected it would further solidify his status as a top flight Welterweight. And if Mayweather were to beat him? That would be an incredible win. Now you saying that Mosley is old and Manny doesn't belong at 147 is a pure cynic's move that aims to discredit Floyd's potential future seeing how that is the likely course of action he's gonna take. And you wonder why fighters act the way they do. You simply can't please everybody. If he were to fight Sergio Martinez at 154, the same Sergio Martinez that Drew with Kermit Cintron. Then all of a sudden it would legitimize his status?
Kessler was just outsmarted by Joe a couldnt get off that right hand. Lacy just got the hell beaten outta him. Both were good but people should've let their career's progress before hyping them up so much.
There wouldn't be a lot left for him to prove. He would still be missing PW (who can getb down to 147), but he would have a decent resume and be clearly the best at the weight. If he wanted to really cement his legacy, he could add Pavlik ( very beatable for him) and move into the top dozen or so ATGs. He has the skills and ability to do all of this but the balls are very questionable, and with good reason.
