If Groves does get his rematch with Froch and get stopped AGAIN, more decisively ...

Where will that leave him? If he gets a second successive KO defeat to Froch and this time takes an absolute BUTE-ING??

The ref will be under strict orders not to jump in this time, that is a certainty.

Froch will be 100% motivated this time, better prepared and will not be underestimating Groves. He has his legacy to protect and his reputation to restore. That will be EPIC motivation that was missing in the first fight.

Groves on the other hand could not be any more motivated than he was on Saturday, he had waited his entire professional life to fight Froch and for a world title.

An under motivated, under prepared Froch fought the Best EVER version of George Groves. And still won.

So I see a second fight being a much more comprehensive and decisive defeat for Groves, in my opinion, and possibly bad for his long term health as the ref will let him take a real beating before stopping it :good

    Thoughts?

I think you are wearing your Froch tinted glass mate. Why do you think Froch was not 100% for this fight? Why was he underprepared? Smacks of excuses.

I don't see a rematch happening. If it does then George comes in bigger, better, stronger and wiser and gets a KO.

Carl is what he is, 36 years old. There wont be anything new to learn or teach him.

Any doubts George has about Carl and boxing at World Level have evapourated. He is only going to get better. This experience will have done him the world of good. Carl is going in the opposite direction IMO.

Edit: Carl didn't get beaten up for the first 6 rounds because he wasn't properly prepared or not 100%.... He got beaten up because Groves is the real deal.

I think groves will be even more motivated and confident knowing what he was able to do in the first fight, froch is not getting any younger and george has the power to seriously hurt him.

Groves is only going to improve in the time leading up to a rematch. Wide points win for groves with froch coming on late but not doing enough to beat groves is my prediction. Wouldn't shock me if groves stopped froch in the rematch though.

Groves would school Froch in a rematch.

He would box clever and stay out of a brawl.

Froch aint got a plan B to fall back onto.

    Easy Win for GG.

    IMO.

That should be his plan I agree.

But he should have stuck to what he was doing in the first fight and not got into a brawl with Froch.

That surely would have been drilled into him throughout camp that he would be outmanned and come out second best in a brawl. He was fighting Froch's fight from round 7 onwards and losing the rounds and shipping punishment.

Up until then he was doing fantastically.

The point being, I don't think he CHOSE to suddenly have a brawl, he ran out of energy.

And he doesn't have the skillset, strength or tools like Andre Ward to fight on the inside and tie up.

The fight kind of went broadly as predicted, Groves start first and would win most of the opening rounds and then Froch would come on strong.

It was just a more extreme and exciting version of that.

I just don't think Groves will be able to keep Froch at bay again for 12 rounds either.

No shame there though. He is a better boxer, but that wasn't enough.

Nice one. Someone else agrees with me.

GG didnt just fancy a tear up he was struggling to keep Froch off of him. He was fading. The more I watch the last two rounds the clearer it becomes to me.

Booth could be the difference, he's particularly good of helping his fighters make adjustments between rounds

People are getting caught up with groves's performance. Don't get me wrong he proved he is world class and can mix it with the best. But there were worrying signs. He seemed to me to be slowing down quite a bit by round 8/9

Also if your boxing someone's ears off why go into a war, he completely played into Carl's hands and it cost him. So is his ring IQ world class

Not knocking him as he did great, but I don't think it was floor less like people are making out.

Froch was highly motivated this fight, he had to annihilate Groves as he felt disrespected. If anything he was too motivated and that played against him. What also made him look so bad was the fact he was knocked out in round one, I don’t get why people ignore the fact that Froch was recovering from that punch for most of the fight. Great champions seem to be able to create a parallel universe where what should have happened doesn’t. Froch should'nt have recovered from the brutal punch that had him out cold but he did, he then also won a fight he shouldn’t have won, that’s a great champion, like him or not. How long he can keep doing that is the question.

The likelihood is that Groves will come in better prepared next time and not be drawn into a brawl, which effectively lost him the fight. Sticking to his gameplan and better pacing means an easy points win for Groves. Which is why I wonder about the rematch. You could reason that Froch will always come on later in the fight, but is he going to want to take that punishment again. Either way Froch knows he is in for another brutal war

Who cares if he loses again. Mosley lost twice to Forrest and Wright, he still made millions.

People harbour this thought that a boxer must be able to beat every man. It's only a reality for very very few.

10 weeks prior to the fight Groves had no trainer and nowhere to train.

Its likely his sparring was not world class as it would have been under booth.

In a rematch Groves will be better prepared and will have learned from his mistakes both in preparation and in the fight itself.

Froch on the other hand will know Groves can knock him down heavy with one shot.

Groves if the red mist does not take hold should be able to control the fight even easier in a rematch.

Groves controlled the fight but ONLY for the first 5 rounds - no question.

    6 was a WAR.

7, 8 & 9 Froch took control of the centre of the ring, Groves' punch output dropped off a cliff, he started getting regularly backed up on the ropes and shipping punishment. A Bute style KO looked on the cards before the ref jumped in over zealously.

I have not been able to rewatch the fight properly, despite shelling out £14.99 to watch it on the night

But I am guessing something hurt Groves in round 6 to stop him controlling the fight and alter the tide?

Or he just gassed as he tried his best to take Froch out and he was still there. I believe 'breaking his heart' is the phrase ...

Either way, I can't see Groves managing to control a fight for 12 rounds vs Froch without gassing and/or taking punishment. He simply isn't good enough - good that he is.

The result will be the same in my opinion, just that George will be hurt a lot worse when Froch does take control this time as the ref won't jump in.

I was more interested to know that IF this scenario does occur, which everyone would have to agree IS a possibility, where does it leave Groves?

Losing twice in a row by KO, so nobody is in any doubt you are second best to your opponent set David Price back very badly indeed.

Froch admitted that he could not remember being knocked down so to do what he did is remarkable. However he now knows that in any slip up George has the speed and power to do him severe damage. If George can box him for 12rounds he wins easily.

Full credit to froch for somehow winning the fight via bad stoppage. Your post is so biased its unreal. Grove would KO froch if the rematch happens, which I highly doubt team would be opt for.
