If Groves wins the WBSS what should he do next?

It’s in Froch’s book, he doesn’t give much reference to it. He even sounded like he didn’t particularly rate him as decent sparring.

Fighters do get sparked sometimes, even in sparring. Groves is a class fighter.

 

True there is, however I think he is really starting to struggle at SMW. Yes he makes the weight, but with every fighter he's becoming closer to what happened to Lee Selby in my opinion.

I think he really should move up after the WBSS Final, hope he wins it too.

 

Groves has said a before that he has been dropped numerous times in sparring, so I don't think it's exactly a secret. He has also said it doesn't bother him that much as sparring is for trying out new things and sparring is not the same as a real fight, which is the right mentality to have.

 

Spot on I thought the sluggishness he showed in the Cox fight might come back to haunt him against Eubank Jr, he didn't look great at the weigh in either and that Eubank coming up from Middleweight could get lucky and catch him or he could get out worked in the end Groves man handle him and showed how inferior Eubank technically was but i think he is going to have to make a decision soon about the weight.

 

I'm sure it was for the Degale fight. He prepared with Froch while Chunky sparred Cleverly.

 

Yeah every fighter is different in sparring. Sparring is essentially preparation for the real thing. Some guys are very poor in sparring. Richie Woodhall said he was very poor in sparring.

 

Retire. The ship has sailed for a Degale rematch. Plus he has already beaten him.

 

Just seen Groves say that if he beats Smith he wants to fight at Stamford Bridge next summer, so retirement unless he loses of course looks unlikely for at least another year.

 

I wouldn’t want him going to fight all sorts of light heavies. But that Jack fight is so winnable and would make sense because of the rematch etc.

I think people go overboard with Groves I’ve been hearing since before the Froch fights he looks terrible on the scales and since then he looks tired and laboured in fights. Many pick him to lose and he’s kept winning easily. People seem to have finally shut up about the poor engine myth now though.

As for the injury proving his body can’t hack it anymore I can’t help but think it’s people jumping to snap conclusions with him again. Surely with that type of jab that could happen to anyone at any age. Although it does remain to be seen how bad it will effect him.

Don’t get me wrong there’s been some good match making along the way for him in his rebuild but he deserves far more credit. I still think he’s far from finished he can easily have 2 more big fights if he beats Smith. He’s not thick either he’ll retire the sport won’t retire him especially after what happened to Gutknecht.
