if ingo KO'd floyd in the return would the swede be king kong insted of liston?

with the advantage of hindsight thats certainly one way of looking at it. another way of looking at is if ingo won the return he would not have suffered the damge of his shattering knockout to patterson. ingo could posibly be closer to the fighter who knocket out yet to be exposed fighters like patterson and machen. liston would have to fight a fresh champion yet to be exposed who may not have been as intimidated as patterson was.

I dont fancy ingos chances necasarily against liston but then nobody fancied ali's chances against either liston or foreman. I am not saying ingo is ali I am saying experts are not always rigt and we can all be wise after the event.

Listons aura grew because he dismantled the best heavyweights of his day and was a bad dude nobody wanted as a champ. As good as he was (and i accept you have to give Liston a good chance against all heavyweights) the fact remains that all the good heavyweights he dismatled had been dismantled before. He even got sloppy seconds on patterson after ingo beat him. an intimidated champion with the weight of "decent america" on his shoulders who had fought but 4 times in 3 years who was packing a disguise for his exit home. thats not the same guy ingo beat.
