Sounds like Tyson soaked up punches that had been leaving others prone quite easily and not long after put Ruddock to bed. Ruddock was a massive puncher and very feared at the time.

Tyson to you is what Sugar Ray Leonard was to redrooster. In his defense he was quite funny and intelligent in his trolling at times

You are only giving a gold medal to Tyson's chin with this comment. Lewis had a strong left hook, uppercut and jab with which he has hurt knocked out many other opponents.

Actually it is something which Lewis hasn't proven either :). Tyson would not have gone down by that Wlad Right hand, i guarantee it and the proof is in all his losses.

fair point, he did say his hand prevented an earlier finish as Steward was willing him to finish it, but this doesnt take away from the fact Tyson took some massive right hands, which probably played a part in Lewis's hand damage.

Lewis also stated he wanted to punish Tyson, give him a boxing lesson he will never forget.

Red rooster made some good arguments. His fixation with Terry Norris and supposed belief that Norris v Leonard wasn't the result of Leonard's decline was way off the charts though !

It's funny though how any reference to the significance of Tyson losing to Douglas is almost treated as off base and ridiculous as Leonard being judged on the Norris defeat by some posters here.
Obviously I'm a stigmatized "Tyson hater" too, so don't take my word for it. But Tyson-Douglas has been made a taboo subject in regards to any discussion that attempts to measure Tyson's greatness.
I attract a lot of vitriol and contempt for pointing this out but it is true.

The Douglas loss does reduce prime Tyson to something clearly less than a top level HW ATG by any normal standards and Wass is on pretty safe ground there.
Of course, there are plenty of people willing to overlook and give Tyson a pass so he's not judged by normal standards.

I guess the upset of the century was so shocking to some it's over 27 years later and they still haven't come to terms with it.

Another thing that is overlooked by everybody on here. Tyson was a veritable animal in the gymnasium, the kid trained his was off like no over. Evander Holyfield was one of the most intense and hard working fighters of all time and he remarked that Tyson trained even harder than himself.

The point I'm trying to make is Tyson is allowed every excuse in the book for his losses, well one could ask how good would his opponents have been if they trained like Tyson?

Anyone that regards tysons defeat to douglas as prime tyson or the same guy that decimated most of the division is an idiot.

Regarding if his opponents would have trained as hard as tyson would the have been as good...they would have probably been every bit as good if not better. Tysons sucess came from his training. Thats why still to this day hes the youngest heavyweight champion ever. The trainings the reason he would have beat all of them. Bowe, holyfield, lewis, klitchko.

And yet all of them with the exception of bowe had better careers than him.

As soon as he stopped the training he started losing it...albeit he had a lot of other problems going on. But tyson had some good raw talents but without cus and the training regime if he was picked up by anyone else he wouldnt have been the yoingest heavyweight champion of the world. Probably not even a world champion. Tyson had some good raw materials but it was his dedicated extreme work ethic and cus that made him. To this day i m dumbfounded why cus,s training techniques seem to have died with him. Some of these heavyweights nowadays cant box to save their lives. Single punch fighters. Dont know how to throw combinations.

Actually noticed watching tommy morrison the other day his corner was calling out numbers to him. Wondered if they trained using cus,s number system.

I see a lot of similarities there - both men were tremendous athletes, both packed a heavy punch, and both had a serious problem with running out of gas.

Tyson was momentarily stunned by Bruno in the first fight and I think AJ would provide similar problems. Ultimately, though I like AJ, I think he is basically the Bruno for this generation of heavyweights. Neither Tyson nor Lewis would be overly stretched by him.

Dont think that would have made any difference, they didn't have Tyson's natural gifts and skills.

So first excuse, i hurt my hand, second excuse, i was trying to give him a boxing lesson. Poor lenni still has to answer questions over a one sided victory against a shot fighter. Speaks for itself really as to how people regard that fight with still so many questions being asked today

Make your mind up. You just said it was his work ethic that got him to the top......
