Me thinks you haven't done the proper research on the subject, your lack of knowledge on the subject renders you incapable of having an educated opinion on the matter.

Incase you are left scratching your heads, thinking what is he talking about. I'll let you all into a little secret.

The day before the bout with Tyson, Douglas was injected with penicillin to combat bronchitis, the flu and swollen tonsils.

Now you can all bury your heads in the sand and pretend it's not true, but the facts are Douglas was in a more sorry state than 23 year old Mike Tyson could ever imagine. If you believe a man is 100% suffering with those ailments then I suggest you go to the doctors like Douglas did, not for treatment though but for your heads testing..........

Lets be honest Wass you hate Tysons guts ,I don't like him myself but I think I'm objective about him. What knowledge of Tyson do you think you have that I don't, I watched him come up, facing the following in fights I either own on compilations [3,] or have seen several times on TV and You Tube.
    Mercedes

    Sims
    Canady
    Johnson

    McBride
    Mc Neeley
That's 48 of his 58 fights that I either own or have seen several times
I've also read and own 3 books on him.
So what extra knowledge of Tyson do you possess that I don't have?
Explain the special insight you have about him that I have missed?

I'm always ready to be educated, so here's your chance to enlighten me!
    • Influenza is a virus borne ailment and penicillin is ineffective against it and so not given. Penicillin is also rarely given for swollen tonsils. It is in some cases given for Bronchitis.

    • Douglas talking in a taped interview with James Slater. Boxing News Feb3rd 2015
QGoing into the fight, did you always think you’d stop or KO Tyson, or did you think that with your skills you’d out-point him?

J.D: “All I knew was that I’d give it my best and fight hard. I knew I was in great shape
Who should I believe you ,or Douglas?

Wass, Tyson was a mortal, he could be hurt, cut, kod and lose control badly in the ring, there's no getting away from that. He lost to Douglas, no doubt s, it's on film for all to see. I won't make excuses for the Douglas fight. But what what's certain in my mind is that he wasn't the same character that beat Frazier, green, Berbick, tucker, Thomas or Holmes. He'd lost focus, interest whatever you want to call it. Douglas was the better fighter in Tokyo, but if he'd faced Tyson just a few short years before he'd have lost, no doubt about it. Douglas was like Leon spinks in the first Ali fight, he faced a lesser version of the fighter in front of him. He did what any other heavy would have done and capitalised on the Tyson in front of him. The Tyson of the Berbick fight wouldn't have even had a easy fight against Douglas ill admit, but he would have won.
Tyson was weak in Tokyo like Louis was against schmeling, but the schmeling fight didn't prove that max would always defeat Joe. It just proved that max took what any decent heavy would, victory over a lesser version of the guy in front of him.

Antibiotics are administered for secondary bacterial infections stemming from the flu, the swollen tonsils and bronchitis were complications from the influenza. He was given penicillin for these conditions.

You believe Douglas was 100% going into the fight with those ailments, not a cat in hells chance I'm afraid. Of course if you think Tyson fcuking a few lady boys and staying up till midnight is comparable then we shall leave it at that pal.

In your mind maybe so but Douglas dominated Tyson so clearly and easily barring a little mistake
I have all of his fights on DVD and most of his amateur fights, not bad for a Tyson hater hey?

Okay, so if someone lands a punch on him, so what? His chin is granite, no body landed more than a single shot on him from 1985-88.

The guys now are big. Mike would topple many of them, but if they don't fall in a few rounds Mike would be dealing with big guys.. Much bigger than in his era. This is why I think we need a superheavyweight division.

Yes, it is in the books as is Douglas ko Tyson, but do you see the Louis that lost to max as the same version that beat Braddock, Farr, conn etc?.

Exactly, max beat a Louis that 9 times out of 10 would have beat him. Same as buster with Tyson. I'm not saying Tyson won in Tokyo, just that probably any other month, week or day Tyson would have beaten Douglas. Can you see Douglas beating Berbick and then defending the title 9 times against Tyson s opponents? I sure as hell can't.

No he wouldn't, Max had the element of surprise fighting Louis for the first time and devised the perfect strategy to defeat him.

Max Schmeling defeated a prime Joe Louis and deserves credit for it.
I make no excuses for Joe Louis.

There's a childish tendency among people of this forum to always make excuses for "great" or "favourite" fighters whenever they lose in their primes. Yet the excuses are never afforded to lesser name fighters. It's silly.
Great fighters and champions deserve to be treated as such and fans need to face up to losses as well as all the glorious wins.
