Not one of them would be good enough to beat Joe Calzaghe. At least 4 of the 5 wouldnt win a single round and would slapped around brutally
Only the Ward would be competitive to the extent of actually giving Joe problems. Calzaghe beats the rest with relative ease.
I think prime Calzaghe beats them all. I'd like to see more of Ward though. His style may not be pretty, but it is effective (like Calzaghe). I like how refined his skills are up close, how he works in and out of the clinch, and how he can be effective at different ranges. He's a clever fighter with skills, but as of right now I wouldn't pick him over a prime Joe.
The only fights Calzaghe would win pretty much guaranteed is against Kessler (obviously since he beat Kessler in his prime) Abraham (If Froch can school AA, Calzaghe can easily do it too) Taylor (Taylor was a faded fighter when the S6 started and his natural weight is 160) Johnson (I think it would look a lot like the Lacy fight) and Green (For obvious reasons. Green isn't a top ranked fighter, solid top 10-15 fighter, but def not at the top) Ward, Froch, and may'be Dirrell. I think these fights could go either way. I would fancy Calzaghe in all of these fights, but pretty much all of them are pick 'em fights.
Calzaghe vs Robin Reid - Decision (could have gone the other way) Calzaghe vs David Starie - Decision (but struggles the entire fight to gain an edge) Calzaghe vs Kabary Salem - Decision (but gets rocked and DROPPED). Calzaghe vs Charles Brewer - Decision (slight edge sustained by Calz) Calzaghe vs Mikkel Kessler - Decision (even for the first half of the fight then Joe pulls ahead and sustains his modest lead) Calzaghe vs Sika Bika - Decision etc. ------------------------- All of these absurd posts about Joe dominating easily the Super Six needs a little reality check. Joe - without home turf, handpicked refs, and leaning predisposed judges - would STRUGGLE mightily the entire way - in his prime. If he hadn't retired - that version fighting from late 2009 until now - would have lost to Ward without a doubt. Cases can be made for a few more LOSSES. The main victory would be Joe agreeing to face decent comp - that was near prime - in a single fight and decent comp - near prime - in consecutive fights. That kind of bold step up would have tripled or quadrupled the comp he faced in 46 fights over fifteen years in only two years. Instead, he faced weaker comp in his long career then essentially EVERY SINGLE fighter who participated in the Super Six (with perhaps one or two exceptions - maybe). But Joe retired and went on to run the Calz School of Boxing Promotion and Career Management. The first degree given out was to the 2010 class valedictorian Lucian Bute receiving the Calz Cherry Picker and Tomato Can Shiner of the Year award. Sven Ottke (member of the board of directors) was on hand for the presentation. Frank Warren was given a lifetime achievement award. Brian Neilsen was the keynote speaker on the night. - Simply the truth. -
Given the general consensus that Ward is the one with the biggest chance of beating Calzaghe (or at least making it close), I'd say let's look at how they handled a common opponent--Bika. Calzaghe beat him soundly in a tough fight. Ward beat him much less decisively, even though it was a clear win. Kessler won 2-3 rounds against Ward in an 11rd fight, and 3-4 rounds against Calzaghe in a 12 rounder. Which is pretty much even. Now factor in Kessler's inactivity, eye problems, and injuries from fouls vs Ward. So far, Calzaghe has performed better against common opponents, and since that's all we can really go on....
Haha oh your Irish but live in new york that says it all!! Your obviously new to boxing, Calzaghe had more skill, speed and a boxing brain to beat any SMW around. Get over it!! And no I'm not a David Haye fan, I'm a fan of Boxing!
i like how its mentioned that calzaghe was a stay at home fighter with bias ref and judges yet Brit then goes on to talk about how ward would beat him easily but fails to menion ward being a stay at home fighter with bias refs and judges? Why do people find it so hard to be impartial and honest and instead look like idiots
:good I cant c how anyone does not have Calzaghe winning easy ? I might be biased cause I am Welsh but ...........
