Pac's award was attributed to him based on his achievements during the 2000-2009 decade. It's what happens in that time frame which decides who the fighter of that decade is. Floyd despite being the better boxer, unfortunately chose to retire at a crucial time when he could have secured a status that he, his father, and his fans are yearning for. If you want to blame someone for him not getting the award, then look no further than Mayweather himself.

And to answer the question - No, when Mayweather beats Pacquiao he will not have the right claim that trophy. Instead he'll just have to make do with the general consensus that despite not having a better legacy (so far), he's always been far more talented than Manny.

What if Pacquiao beats him in a rematch in early 2011, do you change the FOTD back to Pac again? Then what if Floyd beats him again to win the trilogy in summer 2011, change it back AGAIN?!?!

And wait a minute here - Roy Jones was FOTD for the 90s, but Bernard Hopkins just beat him... will we change B-Hop to Fighter of the Decade for the 1990s now??? :nut:nut:nut

A fail of truly, truly EPIC proportions. Well done!!!!! :yikes

:patsch Try two years homeboy. 2005-2007, from when Taylor beat Hopkins to when Floyd beat Hatton. Is two years 'most' of a ten year period? Didn't think so dumbass.

He still wouldnt be fighter of the decade because the decade as ended he would be the best fighter of his generation which is a higher honour imo.

Never understood why they gave that award out before the decade had finished.

So yes, as worthless as that award is anyway - if we're doing this correctly it shouldn't be awarded until the end of this year, and if Floyd beats Manny in that time you'd have to award the FOTD to him surely

The year did finish didn't it? The end of 2009 marks the end of the decade.

    ****ing ridiculous question!

If they fight, it will in the NEW decade not the previous. Why the **** should that result change a past award?!?!

Whether you think it was right or wrong that pacquiao won fighter of the decade is one thing. But you really think it would be fair to take an award back coz of something that happens later and has nothing to do with the time frame the award was given in?

Ten years is a decade, but the decade doesn't finish until the end of 2010.

Do the maths if you have to?

I think Floyd should have gotten it in the first place, but it's over. Manny won the award, you can't take it from him just because he loses his next fight. The decade is already over, anyway.

So, you're saying that the 90's weren't over until the end of 2000? :think
