If Mitchell beats Katsidis who should he fight?

Marquez can be overwhelmed. Diaz had him wobbling in the second round of their fight, and I'd doubt he's a harder puncher than Mitchell.

Of course, Diaz is better than Mitchell, so I'm not sure Kev could adopt the same approach.

But... you might as well lose to an all time great Mexican if you're going to lose to anyone.

Actually, Kev should aim for Diaz who, stylistically, could present more opportunities - especially if he gets cut.

 

My chain of thought on this issue is that i really like Mitchell ,and i just like Khan , we as fans tend to do this with fighters and in fans eyes , particularly mine when a fighter ive placed on a pedestal in my own head loses i tend to fall out of love with that fighter the more and more he loses , a bit like Ricky Hatton !!!!! ok personal fantasies over

The LW division @ world level , has to be one of the biggest Shark tanks of a division in world boxing , Mitchell has got an array of options awaiting him if he beats Katsidis , now , why would anybody want too see this fight (Khan Mitchell) before Mitchell attempts to make a dent on the LW divison first , and the same applies to Khan , at this stage it would be seen for both fighters as an easy option to make a big pay day , IMO , Khan would be a clear favourite and would get lambasted for taking a fight with an unproven blown up LW while a pack of hungry dogs are waiting for him @140 and Mitchell would be in a slightly better position in that he'd be in a no lose situation frankly !!!!!

This fight looks a lot better if in 3 or 4 fights down the line if they both still hold world titles and still have there reputation intact , for now its a no go for me !!!! for all the above reasons .

Marquez is seen as the #1 LW in the world by almost everybody , that isnt just a name on paper thats a real fight right there , Khan would be an overwhelming favourite against Mitchell @140 right now , i dont think anybody would right off this win if Mitchell pulled it off , i for one would be shocked to the ****in bones if Mitchell beat Khan at any weight class in any era !!!

The top names in the divison starts with Marquez , if Mitchell fights him and wins or at least makes it competetive then he is in a good position , i class Soto as a more dangerous opponent to JMM to Mitchell's particular style and i dont give him much of a prayer against Funeka if im honest either , Marquez or Diaz would be a great next step if Warren could secure that , thats ofcourse if Kevin comes through the Aussie !!!!

Nationality doesn't come into my requirements for liking a fighter. I'm rooting for Katsidis in this one, and will be at Upton Park!:happy

 

Not normally with me either , i was screaming Barrera's name from the roof tops in the MEN and was actually hoping Roy Jones stopped Calzaghe and i like both Khan and Calzaghe

Fact is im British , shite i know , but there is something very likeable about Mitchell , i think its his supreme confidence and demeanor , he just strikes me as real !!!!!! , i like the fact he still holds absolute 100% trust in Jimmy Tibbs too , that is so refreshing when you see a fighter and trainer air tight like that , you just know the preperation in the gym with that sort of combination is perfect !!!!

Overall i see Mitchell as the new Ricky Hatton so to speak and i ****in loved Hatton ..........

 

To be honest, i was not saying necesarily that KM would beat any of these guys, but i just feel there may be some disadvantages to them happening.
Of course with KM being in the LW division i would say the most viable option for him would be marquesz which is why i voted for him in the poll. The only issue with mitchell fighting him is, would it be similar to khan having barreera on his record, or do you not think marquez is as gone as berrera?

 

That is a distinct possibilty and i actually done a Marquez is shot thread and got shot down for it , while its unconfirmed that Marquez is shot i think we seen enough evidence in the Floyd fight and the two fights building up to it (Casa & Diaz) that a) he's not as effective @135 and b) he may of been in one war too many !!!!

If he beats Diaz for me that theory is blitzed and he continues as the worlds #1 , if Diaz beats him it will come as no suprise to me , does that make sense ???

Given that Kevin is un proven at that level , a lot like Hatton was back in 05 , and JMM is still seen as the worlds #1 , if that fight were to happen tomorrow and Mitchell won , we'd be looking at a new superstar i think ..... at least a temporary one .

 

can't argue with a lot of that. He was totally outgunned by floyd, but obviosuly fighting out of his natural weight. But we are yet to see if he is truly shot. I just think people will load their guns with that excuse if Kev did fight and beat him, which annoys me to **** TBH.

 

The Floyd-Marquez fight was no indication of either mans capabilities.

Agree'd ........ but , if Marquez indeed is on the slide then that fight done nothing more than a) aid in that downward slide as he took a real pasting and b) provide more information that he is on the slide , now we all know was not the real Marquez , there is several peices of evidence that was the case despite what the Floyd fans on the GF think , so i think the latter of my points still has a huge ????? hanging over it , but i do have an incling JMM maybe done which presents the perfect time to fight him .

The Diaz rematch is a perfect fight IMO. Diaz gave him problems early on in their first fight, and hasn't had too many rough rides since himself (though has been outpointed twice IMO by a slightly bigger guy) and we will see just where Marquez is by how he fares here. Will he better the first performance? Will Diaz get to him this time? Is Marquez still sharp?

Supposedly JMM is walking round at 140, which is a good sign because I didn't know how his body would hold up after the ridiculous move up to face Floyd.

 

I think you are probably right, diaz is the next logical step for him. In the mean time by the time that fight happens we will know who has won between mitchell and katsidis, and then the winner of that should be well placed to either fight JMM, or fight an eliminator.
But Diaz will be a great yard stick to gauge how he would compete, or if indeed he is shot.

 

Sorry pal, but you can't help but love a bloke who walks to the ring in a Spartan helmet and then says he doesn't give a **** whether he gets hoisted out of the ring on shoulders or feet first...I see a very painful night for Kevin Mitchell
