If not for the mental lapses, just how good could Golota have been?

You can't say something like that unless you're a Lewis nuthugger.

Before you post crap, why don't you do some research and read up about what happened to Golota before that fight.

Agreed, just like Duva said after the fight. And sadly that is why Bowe has brain damage. The 2nd fight should have been stopped, but it wasn't, and that is when Golota decided to stop it himself.

You can have all the power in the world but if you can't connect it is useless!

Sadly when Golota did get his **** together he robbed in back to back decisions against Byrd and Ruiz. He should have been unified WBA/IBF champ.

Not when the headbutt causes a broken orbital bone. Watch the interview, then you will understand.

That's the whole point of the thread, about his mental lapses.

You are clearly a hater of supreme white fighters. Why don't you go back to your "great black hope" wish list.

In the second round Tyson didn't (and really couldn't) do much. Had it not been for poor ref work and the injuries that Golota suffered, Tyson would have most likely been beaten down in the later rounds.

I have always said that. Bowe was not the only one affected by those brutal wars.

Golota was an amazingly talented, big heavyweight. If his head was screwed on right, he could've achieved many things.

It wasn't just his mental state, though. His durability is also questionable; see the Lewis, Tyson and Brewster fights. However, he did take Bowe's best shots for two fights, so it wasn't that bad.

It also seems that as he got older, he got wiser. He kept his composure quite well from 2003 on.

:patsch Tyson along with Joe Louis are probably the 2 best HW punchers ever, Tyson had power in both hands but what really set him apart was his ability to get maximum leverage behind ANY KIND OF PUNCH he threw, other than Louis, I've haven't seen anyone else who could punch like that.

Golota was taking heavy shots in the 2nd round too, all he did was survive that round. Golota had a concussion and had damaged neck vertebrae, he wasn't gonna win that night. Golota was either gonna be stopped or suffer more damage to his neck, either way he was screwed, and this isn't something he should get **** for.

All polish fans should forget about golota and concentrate about future.Golota was very skilled but he was a looser.Whatever he did, he lost, even when he was better.Just looser. It's sad but true

Golota wasnt prepared mentally to compete in this sport. His dream when he came to US was to be a truck driver!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember reading that when he first came to the US all he wanted to do was to be a truck driver. And at first he was just going to fight a few times to raise the money for truck driving school but then was convinced to stick with it.

Guys like Gatti, Glenn Johnson, Holyfield they have a love for the war that is boxing, they want to go into the pressure and the fight. It is one of the most unnatural things on earth to do. Golota never had that he was very talented but he was always looking for a way out of fights either victoriously or in some cases not victoriously.

I do believe that if you could put the head of the Golota from the later years on the body of the young Golota, that he would have at the very least been a world champion.

Something you said made me see the light & this could possibly be the answer.

    You said:

"His durability is also questionable; see the Lewis, Tyson and Brewster fights. However, he did take Bowe's best shots for two fights, so it wasn't that bad."

Lewis, Tyson & Brewster fights all came after the 2 Bowe wars. If you look at Golota before he fought Bowe, both times he was confident, relaxed & didn't seem to be tight (nervous) at all before those fights. But after the resulting back to back DQ's against Bowe, this is what blew apart his psyche. Its as simple as that! Those 2 fights ruined his mental state & because of that, before any huge fight (Lewis, Tyson & Brewster) he was a bundle of nerves, not even knowing himself what was gonna happen in the ring. Naturally, he would have loosened up as the fights progressed, but they ended so quickly, he never had the time to unwind in there.

So Chris, it wasn't his durability physically that let him down, but his mental durability was destroyed by the DQ's, causing him to get iced early by big punchers with no chance to survive.

If not for the DQ's, he prob wouuld have been able to weather those storms.

Maybe except for that 1st Brewster left hook. That punch would have decked ANYBODY that night.

Thats it. Golota was fine mentally before those Bowe DQ's. After that, he never recovered & was a basket case leading up to big fights.

    :good
