If Paulie had moved up earlier in his career and sat on his punches

He said it himself. Buddy McGirt had him doing JUST THAT and the style just isnt for him. Sure he got some stiffer punches in there... but it diminished his natural speedy skillset. It also made his jab (which is one of the best in the game) average. No he is back to his lightening speed and accuracy and he's cutting fools and stopping fights in a way that his style is made to! He might have had more stoppages in the FOUNDATIONS of his career... but at thats only like the first 15 fights... if he was sitting on his punches in his 21st fight (I think) against Cotto... he'd have been knocked out and we wouldn't even likely be talking about him now.

They fought in the smallest ring I have ever seen. On top of that the apron was so soft it looked like they were sloshing around in pudding. Promoters are dirty scum.

Yep -- Spot-on. The frequency and severity of Paulie's hand problems would have probably forced a lot of guys into retirement, but Paulie, who is criminally under-appreciated, is one of the true bad asses in the sport.

    :good

Same hand problems stopped me. Mad props to him, and to Joe Calzaghe.

He didn't sit on **** yesterday. Paulie's slowed down, and sometimes you scratch your head wondering what he's thinking. Always had issues avoiding right hands. Last night with his reducing speed it was more apparent then ever. I was yelling for Paulie to sit down on a right hand or counter Cano's jab. Cano's gloves were way too far apart and Paulie could've sat down on his wild ass but he didn't. When Paulie attempts to punch in bunches he's kind of slow nowadays. He's always been quick one shot at a time. That left jab is still respectable weapon considering he basically wins rounds with it. I suspect his hands might be getting a little better (Reason he didn't sit down on shots in his career). Cano cuts easy too so I wouldn't put too much into it. I wonder if the Russian does, though.

Paulie takes a beating every-time out. (Against elite)
Just cause you have a jab it don't make you slick.

I really like watching Malignaggi fight, he said on ringside that he fights the way he does because he can, others don't fight like he does because they can't or else they would. So I think he fights the best way he can for his abilities.

What did he look like on Saturday though? I missed the fight but I saw a few people saying he lost and the scorecards were strange as ****.

Malignaggi is as close to a shot fighter you can get. For whatever reason he tired noticeably from the midway point of the fight, got caught way to much against a slow mover in Cano. Legs couldn't get him in and out of range.

I'm still baffled Cano didn't step on the gas in the 12th as Paulie was hurt in a bad way in the prior round.

Amused how Paulie whined after Diaz got a bit of a hometown decision and forced a rematch and now situation reversed and Paulie just looking for his next undeserved payday. Talk about a clown, no honour at all.

    Doesn't Cano have paper skin?

And the faces of Cano and Shenchenko aren't really testament to Paulie moving up or sitting down on punches. Paulie's always had those slicing hands that would mark his opponents:
