Penn is fighting jon fitch next and gsp is fighting shields. Fitch and shields are rank # 2 and 3 at welterweight behind gsp.

yea if penn looks good against fitch and gsp bore us to another 5 rounder then we proly see gsp-penn 3. Could the 3rd time be a charm for penn? hopefully:lol:

If GSP stays at 170, yes. Defeating Fitch would mean he deserves another shot.

If GSP gets past Shields, he should move to 185.

would love to see gsp challenge himself against the 185 lbs fighter but i don't think he will. He doesn't have the fire penn has. Penn don't give a ****. He fights at light heavyweight just to challenge himself. I would love to see gsp at least take a fight @ 185.

If Penn beats Fitch and after GSP beats Sheilds

What should happen ; GSP moves up and fights Silva , Penn fights the winner of Alves Condit and the winner fights GSP if he is still actively defending his WW crown or Penn - Alves / Condit is for the vacant strap

What will happen ; GSP Penn 3

Very big ask of BJ Penn to pull off the win against Fitch though , and id like to see Maynard Penn @55 for one

There is of course the possibility that BJ might move back down to 155 should Maynard beat Edgar.

Yes but it would be the same result. I cant see Penn solving GSP standing up just because of that takedown ability that GSP poses. GSPs reach is also immense and will Jab and shoot at will.

I'm sure its a complete coincidence that he's been slowly building muscle mass for the past two years.

I can't see it happening again but if Penn did beat Fitch then what could you say. He would deserve it. I don't think GSP Fitch 2 works either.

It would be the right time for GSP to go up to 185 and allow new fighters to take over at 170.

Not at all. An absolute waste of time.

After Shields, GSP has to move up. There's no-one or nothing for him and he could use his last few prime years towards the middleweight division and really test himself.

    Who?

He faced Hughes as a late replacement in an interim title fight. He faced Serra because Serra was the reigning champion. He faced Koscheck because he was by far the most marketable opponent and was the last guy to take a round off him. They've put Fitch off as long as possible...if he beats Penn then he has to get a second world title shot. And if Penn becomes the second man to beat Fitch after destroying a former world champion who was on a three fight winning streak then who would be more deserving than him?

Nope...after Shields he would have pretty much cleared out the division and the future is at middleweight. Depending on the UFC 127 result, I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC made him face Fitch before he moved up just to ensure they didn't get stuck with Fitch as world champion. But if its Penn...**** it let Penn face Condit/Lytle winner for the vacant title and finally book GSP vs. Silva!
