I see stamina as RJ's biggest concern.

I think he'll make JC look slow and clumsy for the first four rounds or so.

it will do alot in the eyes of many like those who just watch for the blood or because its on HBO, but those who truly understand boxing will not be so excited since they know he has beaten better opposition before.

Calzaghe is faded and has looked poorly since Bika in my view. His fight against Kessler doesn't mean anything because Kessler is not an elite fighter, he was just the best of an awfully weak division.

We saw Calzaghe face a real elite fighter in Hopkins, and Hopkin showed the world where exactly Calzaghe stands and that was outside of the elite.

Like I said before, both fighters are faded, the only difference is what they are faded from. Roy was one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport, Calzaghe was the champ of a garbage division.

Does the former ATG have enough to beat a faded undisputed champ of a garbage division? We will see.

That is an overly harsh view. What's your beef against Calzaghe?

Kessler is a very good fighter and in his physical prime, so for him to lose soundly to Calzaghe was quite a statement by the Welshman. And you state that Hopkins exposed Calzaghe, when in fact the judges and most here -- including myself -- scored the bout for Joe, and many by a wide margin.

I agree Hopkins would have been the justified favorite had they fought in their primes, but he clearly lost that fight. No reason to get into it here, if you honestly believe that Bernard somehow outclassed Joe.

Calzaghe has good wins on his resume: Eubank, Reid, Lacy (JC was the underdog), Kessler, Hopkins. It isn't a fantastic resume and he isn't equal to Jones, of course, but Roy is so shot now, he should have retired years ago.

    I like your avatar.

This would propel Jones into my top 20 all time, assuming that Calzaghe didn't look like he'd slipped to far.

If he stopped him or wide UD'd him, 18th-16th.

There's no way he will retire if he wins, knowing that pisses me off. The fight is going to take place in England?, I ****ing hope not.

Eubank was shot (and never elite)
Reid (who the hell is Reid what has he done in his career ever)
Lacy (overrated grunt, hyped fighter, not elite )
Kessler (good boxer in a mediocre division)

Hopkins (dominanted and outclassed him the whole fight and was 40+ years old)

The only legit name on Calzaghe's record is B-Hop and people who saw that fight know what happend, Hopkins controlled the fight, had Joe C looking like an amature swinging at the air and landing maybe 6 solid punches the whole fight.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Both are faded, I just think even a shot roy is better than a faded calzaghe.

Eubank was still pretty good, a nice feather at that early stage of JC's career. Reid was a solid European fighter among a few he fought. Nothing great, but OK. A legitimate challenger to his belt, at any rate.

Lacy was the favorite in that fight, no matter what hindsight says now. Kessler is a skilled and accomplished 168 in his prime.

Calzaghe totally outworked Hopkins, who tried to steal the fight by throwing one punch at a time. Didn't work, shouldn't have worked, and he even resorted to a very questionable low blow dive when he became gassed.

Lots of respect for Hopkins, but that was a wide Calzaghe win.

Lacy could be a favorite all he wants, wasn't Miranda the favorite vs Pavlik, the people that knew boxing knew Miranda was one deminsional just like they knew Lacy was. Lacy is not an elite fighter and never was an elite fighter.

Yeah Calzaghe beat Kessler, great, is Kessler an elite? No he isn't. He proved this by ducking a crude slugger like Miranda instead of dispatching him.

You can believe Calzaghe won all you want, I know what I saw. Calzaghe slapping in the air and Hopkins delivering the cleaner blows, with more behind them, all fight long. You can count on your fingers the number of CLEAN BLOWS calzaghe landed the whole fight. He was manhandled around the ring and roughed up by a 40+ year old man and you want people to think this guy is elite? Give me a break.

Beating Calzaghe who is consered no worse than #3 on the P4P list and as high as #1 by some people would greatly improve Jones ATG ranking.
