If Roy Jones had retired after Ruiz, would he have been a top 10 ATG?

    Greatest MW and SMW of all time? I would say he probably is anyway. Arguably, anyway...

    Top 10? Nah. If he'd actually campaigned at heavyweight, and won multiple titles, then maybe.

    No,retiring earlier doesn't help your legacy but only hurt it as you don't have fights to prove yourself.
    Fighting on in a past it state only can help your resume IMO as if you lose....so what?But if you win....that is something.

    Pre-Tarver, RJ only had one loss, and that was via DQ to Griffin which he avenged in a one round KO. He was a guy who won titles at MW, SMW, LHW, and HW. He had never really been challenged and was one of the most gifted athletes ever for a boxer. That's impressive.

    It's debatable.

    Whilst his achievements are great there's lots of things he didnt do;

    - Why didnt he unify the titles at MW and SMW
    - Fight Michael Nunn at MW
    - Fight Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Michael Watson, Joe Calzaghe at SMW
    - Fight DM at LHW
    - Give James Toney and Bernard Hopkins rematches (A crying shame)

    I feel top 10 would have been achieved if he had say fought Tarver before Ruiz and whipped him, and had a couple of the matches suggested above without losing.

    Roy could have been the best ever IMO.

    What a shame :(

    What about James Toney's match up against Jones makes you think there should be a rematch? Toney was pathetically inept in that fight. THat would be like saying that Hopkins owes Pavlik a rematch, or Lewis owes Golota a rematch. No, the one fight was pretty damned decisive.

    Missed the point totally.

    What has Pavlik done since the Hopkins fight ? **** all.

    What has Golota done since the Lewis fight ? **** all.


    Toney done plenty after the Jones Jr fight to deserve a rematch with Roy at LHW, Toney said himself that he underestimated Roy and came in totally weight drained.

    A rematch at LHW was needed IMO.

    Toney did squat until the Jirov win. Then after that big win, he just got fat.

    Toney went on from that fight to dominate at cruiserweight and become a legit heavyweight contender for a time. He obviously was nowhere near 100% the night he fought Jones. Was that his fault and his responsibility? Yes. Would a second win over a better prepared Toney at cruiserweight have added to Roy's resume? Of course it would have.

    Realistically though, I don't think the rematch would have ever happened. They couldn't have found a ring big enough to contain both their egos.
