All the things you mentioned are high on my pet-peeve list. One I'll add is weigh-ins 24 hours before fight time. Its utterly ridiculous that a fight at, ['officially'] say WW (147), ends up being a fight between two MWs (160) on fight night, or a MW against a JrMW or WW. Why bother having weight classes? I'm a proponent of strictly enforcing the weight limit, no cushion whatsoever--you fight at the weight most comfortable to you. If you come in over, you should be penalized on the cards, fined, possibly even suspended, or stripped of your belt (if applicable). If I HAD to pick just ONE thing, it'd be one CHAMPION/division, instead of a bunch of 'titleists'. Jr/Super weight categories are a close 2nd, though, w/15 round fights coming in a close 3rd. Too often, guys don't fight each other due to being 'champions' (the whole NOTION of multiple 'champions' is just stupid!) in different sanctioning bodies; it adds confusion, esp to non-mainstream fans; it allows the sanctioning bodies to play politics; it just, plain SUCKS.
Ill say 3 things.. Most important to me is.. 1. Better matchmaking. 2. More free fights 3. 2 Belts. Less weight divisions would be the next, but it is better that the wieght is more strict in certain ways as well, so ill leave that out.. (Although i think anything under featherweight is kind of ridiculous)
Better matchmaking! to many fighters are feasting on fighters with poor talent and shitty records just to pad their record, and that's dangerous and how a lot of death's and injuries are happening.. Also mandatory STERIOD testing before and after fight's.. NO EXCEPTIONS..
although i agree that one champion would be one of the best things to happen, we have to look at the benefit of the multiple bodies - its the only way some fighters can make it, look at witter, cos of one loss to zudah, he never managed to get another shot for years - im not a fan but it shows that if there was one body, and all had to go throught it, a fighter could be years into his prime before he could make it through especially if one body doesnt like him for some reason. i think maybe the best idea is to keep the 4 bodies, but enfore some form of tournament rule, each champ must make 1-3 defenses - against the top 3 contenders.. then they have to fight each other for the unanimous - it might take a while to get the unaminous but when you do - no one can argue if he is there on merit or not
