what makes machida so successful isnt karate its that he knows other MA that he can mix with karate that makes him so good.
Great. But my answer stays the same. A mix of boxing and BJJ, but with Machida's movement and ability to throw lightning kicks in a different way to Muay Thai fighters.
Considering my strengths and experience in actual real life it'd be wrestling/boxing. Tailor my style around TD defense and being able to outbox opponents...Punching in the UFC is pretty horrid at times. A good jab goes a long way.
I'd simply do what I've trained years in.. Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu. I got a Blackbelt in taekwondo to when I was about 16.. But Muay Thai and BJJ is really all you need.
