YEy i totally agree with you, people here are overestimating there fighting weight by probably 20 to 25 lbs.
I actually am on the verge of having a few fights...I am 5'6, 147. My trainer tells me I'll have to get down to 135, which breaks my heart, because I don't want to lose any of this muscle I've worked hard to build over the last 6 months...but it's either weight lifting of boxing...gott choose one.
first of all in 6 months of weight lifting you couldnt have build that much muscle it takes yrs of weight lifting to build a lot of muscle.. secondly boxing is a sport where you need to be as small as you can.. is either boxing or looking good for the girls at the beach.. you cant have both.. i always wanted to gain weight and get big but while i boxed i couldnt do it.. i lifted weights but for strenght not to get big.. now i can get as big as i want since i dont box but just an advise lose the pounds it'll help you in the ring :hat
I actually build quite a bit of muscle rather quickly. A lot of people comment on how much my body has changed in 6 months. When I started, I weighed 135, now I weigh 147...actually, about 145. Is that 10 pounds of muscle I gained? Considering I kept eating the same (not like I started eating more) I think MOST of it might be muscle. But I feel you on the "boxing or looking good on the beach" thing...I've just started back up boxing again, but at the age of 30, maybe a better option for me is to look good on the beach.
I know how you feel i weigh 205 but i know i should get down to 175,180 if i wanna lose the gut. However ive been lifting faitfully for over a year 4to 5 x a week, i know ill have to sacrifice losing the muscle ive busted ass on getting. I did it backwards i should have done more cardio and less lifting in the beginning. Right know i do a whole lot of both but im just maintaining the weight.
If I trained hard I could make 135 im curretly at about 155 now but havent trained properly in over a year.
i think dieting might be the toughest part of boxing cuz not only do u have to train hard but u have to maintain your weight thats why boxers are among the most discplined athletes in the world
