heres a thought, maybe Ishe should actually try to win a fight instead of trying to simply make it close. He reminds me of Hopkins style of avoiding contact as much as possible - at least Hops has age as a reason.
That's simply incorrect. Watch the fight again when it's posted on youtube. Julio landed to the body with regularity throughout the fight. Also, don't let Ishe's shoulder roll fool you into thinking he slipped all of Julio's overhand rights either. He made him miss ugly a few times late, granted, but he didn't land enough consistently in return to sweep the last four rounds. I could have seen a draw in this fight, but no way should 2/3 judges have had it for Smith.
Oh please, that is a load of CRAP. Julio landed plenty of clean punches. They might not have been perfectly flush but a busy guy like Julio isn't trying to be perfectly accurate. What did Smith land? He didn't land **** either. The shots he was landing weren't exactly flush either.
That's a great point. At 29, Ishe has no excuse for taking his foot off the gas as often as he does. Someone also needs to be real and tell him that the guys who make his style work also have about five times quicker hands and reflexes.
Smith could've easily won this fight had he utilized his jab from the get go. But for some reason, he didn't. It's his own fault he let the fight stay this close. It's obvious Smith is a level above Julio in terms of talent. But it was his own fault for losing the decision.
Julio landed to the body in the mid rounds and because of that I scored those rounds for him. In the early rounds, Julio was trying to land upstairs, but he was blocked. And Smith won pretty clearly the last four rounds. Julio landed only a few bodyshots in the mid rounds. Smith landed much harder shots and his punches were much better than Julio's, especially in the last 4 rounds. Smith won the last four rounds pretty clear, IMO, and Julio didn't win all the first six rounds. I don't know how to score this fight for Julio.
I only caught the last 4 rounds, but I thought they all went to Ishe. What was up with Teddy's scorecard? He gave one of the late rounds to Julio when he didn't land a clean punch.
Joel Julio won four of the first 6 rounds clearly in my view. At best I could give Ishe one round and a share of another. Smith came on in the later rounds and I gave him all the last four rounds. So I guess I could see Someone having it 96-95 for Smith, But I actually had it 96-94 for Julio and felt it was a fair decision. If Smith was busier and boxed more offensively he would have beaten Julio, but Julio was just busier and also in some rounds Julio tried to slip and counter Smith which showed he has improved a little technically. But still Smith was the better fighter but just does not work hard enough. If he is going to continue like this he will soon become an opponent as oppose to a contender. He needs to assess his career and decide if he wants to win a world title or not and fight with more passion, instead of picking his punches and waiting, because while he is waiting his opponent is working and piling up points.
This wasn't even one of those fights that could go either way (which seems to be every ****in fight that goes the distance on this site now). If you scored it for Ishe, you're judging abilities are laughable at best.
I say joel won because judges like defensive fighters but they would rather give the fight to an established agressive fighter like joel even though it could have went either way. i say it could have been a draw.
