Tommy Morrison was generally a pretty aggressive fighter...sometimes to his detriment. But against Foreman he was content to circle and box carefully, while doing everything he could to stay out of Big George's reign. Not the most impressive example of this, I realize, but still notable in its own right.

Yeah he was awful there, though to be fair i've thought Mosley well past it and phoning it in for years now.Enjoyable Margarito anomaly aside.Still, throwing caution to the wind and wading into the smaller man with his trademark telegraphed bombs would have been a lot more admirable than what we got.

Barrera vs Pac could be mentioned as well. The same kind of patient languid strategy that was right to use against Hamed, was woefully inadequate here.PLenty of credit to manny for making that the case, though.

It's fact that it was pre planned by the great Eddie Futch. The plan was for more use of the left and circling in the less common direction much of the time. Futch was the man.

Hearns didn't get SRL out of there early and after being hurt solidly he had to revert back to his amateur success and box. SRL then had to stalk a lot. Later SRL had to be quite aggressive because Hearns had built up a winning lead boxing. Fascinating fight.

This thread got me thinking people don't credit Lennox Lewis for at times being able to box VERY conservatively but then when necessary jumping on people and destroying them in a flash - in this thread we are crediting examples of other fight doing the opposite type of role reversal but here we had a fighter who was capable of doing both very very well (as well as pretty much everything in between too) and to some extent I think from his younger days Lewis was the kind of guy who was looking for the stylish knockout every second he was in there (but wanted to look kinda cool doing it) but he actually learned to box conservatively and within himself so I think Lewis kind of fits this thread in a funny way...anything to give Lennox some props tho I guess - great and under appreciated fighter in his prime years

A great example man..wish I had thought of that. Morrison used his head, fought his best fight...cartainly his most intelligent fight..and that's better than waht Michael Moorer did vs Foreman. I don't care if Moorer was pasting George all along until he got starched...Morrison WON his fight with Foreman..I don't care how he ran...he also boxed and used his head, and didn't get starched.
