I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 Calzaghe fights. And he looks pretty good to me.

If Mayweather has more depth of guys who are B to A- level at some point is it not overkill? Everybody knows Floyd is A+ level. At some point enough Ricky Hatton's and old past prime greats just becomes a mind numbingly predictable Floyd victory. I think we established that Floyd was too good for guys of that level to give him a run for his money. Outside of stylistic nightmares like Castillo and Maidana.

    Calzaghe is A+ level too.

You see A+ guys usually dont lose until they get old and fight the young guns. Or step up and fight other guys near or at their level.

Is it really surprising that two A+ level fighters who fought their toughest opposition after they slipped went undefeated?

Yea the same way people say well Mosley dominated Margarito right before he fought Mayweather. Mosley was obviously not new millennium Mosley still.

Really though Hopkins was past his prime no doubt. His workrate and speed were gone. But he did have some impressive fights shortly before he fought Calzaghe. Nobody brings that up though.

And weather or not you like msyweathers style, it's certainly deserves more respect than joes. I must say though joes engine was something else.

Is there any Calzaghe flavoured bait you won't happily chow down on?

If this is the case, then you rally have no room to make the comparison on who's greater, simply based on a lack of knowledge about at the least, one of the two fighters. I mean no offense by this BTW.

If you'd watched more than 3-4 of Joe's fights, then I guarantee you wouldn't have made this thread.

Joe was an elite fighter and very awkward to fight. He had lots of great attributes, most notably his fitness. But he was not A + level.

Floyd was on another level technically.

    I don't know anybody who'd dispute that.

Oscar only fought for like 15 years and was 34 when he fought Mayweather...

It's pretty pointless taking this any further.

It’s very simple he’s just a better boxer it’s nothing more or nothing less.

As a guy who created this thread seeking more knowledge I've been somewhat disappointed with the responses thus far.

I asked why Mayweather is better than Calzaghe p4p. So far most answers have been pretty bad. They have amounted to Mayweather has more skill. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff.

IntentionalButt gave the best answer so far. Basically saying that while Calzaghes win over Kessler is more impressive than anything Floyd ever did, the depth of Mayweathers resume blows Calzaghes away. Ok, so fair point.

Mate, without wanting to be condescending, why don't you go away and watch some more footage of both fighters and then bump the thread at a later date?

What do you mean the answers have been pretty bad?

    Not exactly groundbreaking stuff?

Just go and watch their fights.

Break their skills down into categories.

    Look at:

    Technical ability
    Shot variation
    Timing
    Accuracy
    Defense
    Footwork etc

As great as Joe was, Floyd Mayweather was just a better boxer.

Technically, he was on another level.

    It's plain to see.

    No bias.

It's just obvious to anyone who watched them.

Joe got by with insane workrate and volume.

Floyd got by on pure boxing ability.

    Also, their resumes aren't comparable.

To be fair, Tony Galento claimed to be the greatest ever.
