Damn! Lara was so out of range throughout the majority of the fight that he couldnt land anything meaningful. Running is not ring generalship. Dude was literally runnnig. Anyone could get in there, run around in the ring against an opponent and call it "ring generalship". Even when the ref broke them , lara was already running on break.Even when throwing his basic one-two right down the middle, he was so far out of range that even though he would catch Canelo with the end of his punches, Lara was so out of range his 1-2 had 0 effect. The majority of the fight Lara put at least 5-7 feet between them. What the fk it that sht?! That is a style more suited for the amateurs.

Lara should never be on prime time anymore.

I think Canelo's aggression was effective. If it was not effective Lara would have thrown more punches which he is capable of as his KO percentage shows. Also, Canelo had his part of controlling the fight by feinting causing Lara to jump back or across the ring like a "scared" opponent.

    Good points.

I was disappointed that Lara didnt keep flicking the 1-2 when Canelo was lumbering forward. He coulda been picking him off but he was anticipating too much.

Canelo did better than I figure going forward. I cant really criticise his efforts, except to say that Lara put on a masterclass defensively.

But yeah, too little offense from Lara, but those punchstats were WRONG. I had Lara landing at 48% up til rd 5, and he woulda had to miss 4/5 of his punches and only threw 12ppr to equal Showtimes #s.....very unsatisfied by their record keeping.
Almost like they knew the judges would need evidence to back their robbery.:rofl

Honestly, the fight could have went either way. I just feel the 117 card was wide, had it been in either fighters favor.

Do you count punches while watching fights?

That's how Lara fights. He doesn't throw many punches. But he usually throws a sharp counter or two then circles around. In this fight, Lara sometimes didn't even throw a punch back when Canelo missed; he just moved without making Canelo pay. And Lara has a bad habit of giving up his body in order to be in position to land his left hand counter. You can't give up the body to Canelo, because Canelo aggressively goes to the body.

This is the common problem with you guys. I love seeing sweet defense and skills as much as you, BUT you have to acknowledge the fact that in order for a fight to exist 1 fighter MUST move forward at some point. What if both guys stepped a few feet out and said I'm going to let him come to me. And did that EVERY SINGLE ROUND? There wouldn't be an event. Boxing would cease to exist because every single round of every fight would be a Draw. So someone has to take the burden of moving forward. In close rounds where a guy lands 8 punches and the other lands 4 punches you HAVE to give that to the agressor. He put in the work and made the action. Now if that was 20-40 and the passive fighter lands more punches he gets the round.(For the sake of this argument we are assuming both punches were equally hard and equally Clean)

Personally I think it was a close fight. I thought 115-113 lara draw or 115-113 canelo were all acceptable.

Contrary to what some people think you do not "gain points" for defense. Your defense is used to stop them from getting points. Example if fighter A throws 100 punches and lands 8 while fighter B back peddles for 3 minutes and throws 8 and lands 6. You have to give the round to fighter A. Doesn't matter that fighter B landed @ a higher percentage and made fighter A "Look bad". It's EASY to make someone look bad when you are not getting in there with intent to throw against them...

THe point is boxing is a fight and you don't gain points for looking "slick". You gain points by LANDING PUNCHES ON YOUR OPPONENT. The only other factor that has to be considered is agression. On close rounds the agressor gets the benefit of the doubt.

I agree with you for the most part. Again, I can see it going 115-113 either way. But the 9 round card was just stupid.

The simplest explanation would be Lara isn't as good as Rigo, while Alvarez is as good or better than Donaire
