Agreed, Ingo is on the level of guys like James Douglas, Marvin Hart, Leon Spinks, a select few others.. I don't know if Baer beats him " early " persay, as he wasn't as skilled as Patterson, but I can definitely see a heavy pounding with a lot of big shots exchanged over 7 or 8 rounds, to an eventual stoppage..

The Douglas that beat Tyson makes Ingo look stupid imo.
Ingo would probably ko Spinks, as Coetzee did ,Hart we have not seen but, I would go with the Swede.

In 84 fights, no one "put Baer to sleep," even a prime Joe Louis! Max Baer had one of the best chins in the history of the HW division.

This is a fight between a puncher with an iron chin and one with a shaky chin. Baer has such an advantage in punch resistance it is hard to see him losing this fight.

Resumes don´t win fights though. But Baer certainly is more proven and Johannson does not have the right style to make this void. Would be an very exciting fight as long as it lasts. Baer by midround KO while behind on cards.

At their best, I'm picking Max, without a second's hesitation. Baer would take whatever Ingo threw at him and then club Johansson down. What sort of game plan could Ingemar Johansson come up with to use against Max Baer's style? (And I am using the word "style" rather loosely here...)

No resumes do not win fights but they are often a pretty reliable indicator of the winner of a fight imo.

Max Baer's knockout of Max Schmeling is an underrated win for sure.

"Mad" Max Baer KO's Ingo in a QUICK thriller................ The difference is, Baer liked to fight and inflict pain, especially when things were going his way....

Ingo needed to be coaxed into the ring to fight.... Especially above and beyond 1961 or so........

YES! Both guys had under par skills, but Baer had the mental make-up over Ingo......

i don't know about that. I think Johansson's skills were ok. Better than Baer's.

Honestly.. I've heard that tune before.
Ingo gave patterson a much worse beating then Liston did too. Look who stayed down longer in their first fights.
Liston had patterson down in round 1, and he stayed there.
Ingo had to keep knocking Patterson down, as he kept on coming back up.
Plus, it would seem he would've picked Ingo anyway, because he beat Ingo twice, but Patterson lost to Liston twice...
    A respect kinda thing.

Liston was better everywhere you look compared to Ingo....... No doubt...... Floyd Patty was merely kissin' some "Ingo" ass there......

Liston decked Patty quick, easy and respectively..... Ingo bounced Patty off the floor in '59 like a rubber ball........

Liston's power was greater than Ingo's hammer of Thor.....
