Brian Magee beats Mads Larsen to win European title

Brian Magee has won the European super-middleweight title

Brian Magee won the vacant European super-middleweight title with a seventh-round stoppage of Mads Larsen in Aarhus on Saturday night.
Belfast man Magee had hometown favourite Larsen down in the fifth and another two times in the sixth round.
The fight was stopped early in the seventh round with the Dane again on the floor.
Magee, a former IBO champion who gave up the British title in March because of injury, shared a purse of £270,000.
The Northern Ireland fighter emulated Derry's Charlie Nash by winning a European title in Denmark.
Nash defeated Scottish great Ken Buchanan to land the European Boxing Union belt in Copenhagen 30 years ago.
In his previous bout December 2008, Magee landed the British title by knocking out Stevie McGuire in eight rounds.
However, a shoulder injury forced him to vacate the British belt in March.
He was then scheduled to challenge new British champion Tony Quigley in June but the bout had to be called off after the Liverpool fighter suffered an injury.

Fair play to Magee, I thought hed get shafted over there but it sounds like Larsen is nowhere near the fighter he once was. First defence in Belfast methinks, Pat :happy

Was out last night so missed the Magee fight, but I'm absolutely buzzing having seen the result. The fact that Brian has won the European title now means he mighn't feel quite as bad about being ripped off against Tsypko when his career is finished.

Hopefully the fight gets put up on Youtube, I'd love to watch it.
3 Irish European champions now :happy, who knows we might be even able to improve on that tally.

    He is very "beatable"

Paul Smith is number 7 in the EBU rankings and number 4 with the WBO so maybe that should be the next fight to get himself positioned infront of Stieglitz.

This is probably his "high watermark" and a good indication of what he brings.
