Potential banana skin there. Acosta has blistering hand speed and ability but he does leave himself open and will need to have tightened up his defence against machado. The other intangible is if he thinks he can just go straight in for an early KO to keep up his successive KO record. Looking forward to this one.
Its defo on Setnata anyway! as far as i am aware- and i could be wrong- James Moore is a defo but no one wants to fight him! (by all accounts sinky was interested but prizefighter was unturndownable) But outside that it is hard to get him an opponent! Again im not sure but i think Coyle and Spike were approached!!!Jamie Moore was talked about but both would prefer a warm up! There was talk of Eddie Hyland- O'Hara. Jamie Power v Waldron. Anto Fitz and Long(but that doesnt seem likely yet, i think the rubber match deserves tv) and a few other names. If i hear anymore ill post it. I think a card will be boxed off next week
Am I the only one who thinks Acosta is going to ****ing splatter Machado all over the place? He was brutal when he lost as wide decision to Bernard (who didn't box particularly well at all) and has been stopped twice in three fights since then. Theres a chance for Acosta to look very, very good here. I wouldn't be surprised if he sparks Machado early
Machado was by no means brutal when he lost to Dunne and the 100-90 decision was the only brutal thing about that fight imo. I thought he won at least 2/3 rounds and boxed pretty well, probably not enough aggression from the Venezuelan, he didn't go for it even when it became clear Dunne was going to get the nod from the referee but other than that he was a tricky opponent who is technically sound and a difficult fight for anyone not at World level. One of those 2 stoppages came from a cut, and the fact Machado won quite a few rounds against Alexander Munoz a few months ago would indicate Machado still has quite a bit left. If Acosta stops him it would be a very very good result, as this will be the first real test to his ko streak and also the toughest test of his career so far. I'm delighted with Machado as a replacement as he's a much better fighter than Gavin Reid and with his experience Acosta should learn a few things in there against him. It's just the step up in class Acosta needs imo. The only thing that worries me about Machado is the short notice and the effect that might have on him. He's not chinny, and his defence is very decent so Alexei will really have to work if he wants that ko. I do think there's a good chance he'll get a stoppage due to the nature of Irish referees and Acosta's willingness to unleash flurries of punches when he backs his man up, but I can't see Machado being properly destroyed here.
I was at ringside for the Dunne - Machado fight and he was brutal. Sure he won a couple of rounds but Dunne beat him one handed after damaging his right hand in the 2nd. Dunne was uninspired but won comfortably. I'm not saying Machado is shot to pieces but I see he got cleanly KO'd by an 8-3 rookie. It shows that in his waning years he can be gotten to early on and Acosta might just blaze out in the first couple of rounds and claim a big scalp. I'm not saying it will be easy and I'm not saying Machado is a bum. All I'm saying is that I have a funny feeling Acosta is going to win in spectacular fashion. If he doesn't, he doesn't. I'd expect him to outpoint his man anyway.
thanks carlos... everything is being very positive about this boy.. interesting to see how far he goes:thumbsup
