:happy:happy:happy:happy National Championships packed with talent Friday, 12 February 2010 16:33 The 2010 National Championships will feature a star-studded line-up, with Olympic, World, European and EU gold, silver and bronze medallists in the mix. Ken Egan, who became the first Irish boxer to win nine senior titles in a row last year, will try to go one better and stretch his amazing run into double figures at the 2010 deciders. If the Neilstown southpaw can achieve that ambition then he'll match Jim O'Sullivan's ten successive wins between 1980 and 1990 - although O'Sullivan missed the 1983 finals through injury. Katie Taylor, meanwhile, will be aiming to add an Irish title to her World, European and European Union crowns. AIBA World Senior Championships bronze medallist John Joe Nevin, World Youth champion Ray Moylette and European Union champions Darren O'Neill, David Oliver Joyce and Con Sheehan will also be vying for glory. The 2010 Championships will feature two boxers, Sean Reynolds and Jason McCalmon, from the Rawthorpe ABC in Huddersfield, England. Reynolds will box in an extremely competitive-looking 69Kg (welterweight) division, featuring reigning champion Willie McLaughlin, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2009 AIBA World Senior Championships in Madrid. Beijing Olympian John Joe Joyce and 2007 European Union champion Roy Sheahan, both of the St Michael's Athy club, will also feature at 69Kg. Meanwhile, European Youth champion Jason Quigley will compete at middleweight, where he could come into contact with reigning EU and Irish champion Darren O'Neill. Ireland will have a new featherweight champion this year as the 57Kg title lies vacant following the departure of Carl Frampton to the professional ranks. The 2010 Elite National Championships and Novice Championships will be held over three weekends - February 19/20, February 26/27 and March 5/6. This content is protected Ken Egan will bid for his tenth Irish senior title in a row
