Chris Phelan also finished on top of the podium as Ireland claimed two gold and two silver medals from today's finals. Phelan, from the Ryston BC, had his handed raised in victory at the 11-nation tournament after Hungarian flyweight Gyorgy Mizsei was retired in round two and Navan BC middleweight Blaney emerged victorious after Ferenc Orbanc, also of Hungary, was also retired in round two. But while while Blaney and Phelan were celebrating, Stephen Broadhurst and Michael McDonagh had to settle for silver after being edged out in the lightweight and welterweight deciders. McDonagh lost a tactical duel with Maxim Shmyglev of Russia 1-0 and Broadhurst was leftfrustrated after dominating his final against home favourite Denis Memerovic of Serbia only to lose out 3-2 on the judges verdict following a 1-1 draw. Cheers Moorser. Good times ahead indeed and hopefully we have a few more lads turning pro in the next few years. Like david oliver joyce, ryan burnett etc... "We are going to kick some bloody arse I tell ye, we really are”
Nice one Mooreser. More medals again. we should sell all the medals we've won boxing in the last few years and clear the countries debts. Jaysus we've some knack of bringing home the goods! Lindsay will beat Simpson says I. But what does the Jackal say? Didn't Carlos just do 20 rounds with Simpson?
cant wait for this fight lindsay should win on points , could be a foty contender , simpson deserves his chance i had him beating smith by a 2 rounds , lindsay would have stopped smith after a one sided beat down imo
Everyone Carlos spars seems to under perform... Booth was poor against Marsh although he got the win, Simpson lost to Smith; what is the wee man doing to them? Can't wait for Lindsay to beat Simpson- its been in the pipeline a long time. Them Jocks are gonna be fed up coming over here to lose- Lindsay-Appleby, McCloskey-Morrison, Lindsay-Simpson. Maybe add Carlos v Kris Hughes to that list in a few months as well...
Hughes has Marsh coming up. A very interesting fight for Carlos to keep an eye on. I'd like to see T-rex in with either of them
Yeah I was thinking this myself. Was Hughes not meant to be on one of the McCloskey undercards that Carlos was on..? Think it was the Kings Hall bill
Best thing about that one? Broadhurst's final ended 1-1 and went to the judges. Five judges - Three voted for the Serb, two for Steven. Nationality of the judges? Serbian, Serbian, Serbian, French, Canadian atsch Unlucky Steve, you never saw it coming. By the sounds of things they were magnificent over there, Broadhurst as Mooreser said beat the Russian World Youth champion from 2008 in his semi-final - as did Blaney en route to gold.
