Ah my birthday. They are Irish but I presume they would like to be British. There are also orangemen in the freestate.
so what makes them british if they r born in the occupied 6 counties...a statelet that was illegally set up in 1920 against the wishes of the majority of the Irish people another question...if the english decide to invade the republic of Ireland again and take it over ....does that make u british
It was under British control long before that. It was set up because the majority of the people wanet the status quo. Im no expert but id say its the same thing that makes welsh and scottish people British. I suppose they are northern Irish and are part of great britain also. If england invaded I would call myself Irish, I presume the world would see us as British im not sure. Any way this has nothing to do with boxing.
i dont want to make this a history lesson ...but the whole of Ireland was under british rule for several hundred years...then under the parliment act 1912 Ireland [all 32 counties] was promised home rule...the unionist in the north threatened insurrection against the crown rather than b ruled from dublin ..1 thing lead to another then the country was split in 1920 for the first time ever...leaving a large minority of nationalist stranded under british rule to this day ...that does not make us british or this part of Ireland british learn your history before u make comments that your not entirely sure of.. by the way perez should b kept busy...i have a feeling ..he will not stay in Ireland for long...if things dont change for him:good
I never said we were british. The 6 counties are regarded as british by most people. Thats all I was trying to say.
when i used the word us...i was refereing to the nationalists of the north of Ireland...thats were im from... most people in the big wide world consider the north of ireland to b irish.. except the british of course...go 2 mainland europe or the US they will look at Ireland AS 1 COUNTRY WITHOUT A BORDER. lets get back to boxing...r u going to the dunne fight on the 12th ...it will b a good way to spend your birthday..:good
Undecided I have tickets to go to Oxygen so I might not be able to see the fight at all im going to see will they show it on the big screen. They do that with the football matches.
Guys lets draw a line under this and concentrate on the boxing. We were through this before so its only rehashing a subject that caused some bad feeling in the past. We are having a golden age for the common irish boxing fan at the minute so lets just discuss the up coming bouts and talent.
Well said. Fra - thats the second time you started this bull**** and its become tedious. For the record Stephen considers himself Irish - but I dont know if he hold an Irish passport, I understand he was a decent Gaelic player before he focused on boxing.
There is an article on the main page about james moore changing trainers and i have to say that imo iceman john scully would be a good pick, his stable is isn't big so he would be able to moore a lot of time and he would be able to get him into top shape And regarding mike perez he was probolby pulled from the card because of the whole danny williams affair.
It was good fun, Brian Peters had sponsored one of the main races (he wasnt there though) but he got me and Neil Sinclair to be in the photo for the winning dog and had a big ad for irish-boxing.com up at the track. By the way was up at Holy Trinity last night. Interviewed Dunne, Magee, Kelly and Harry Hawkins. Some interesting stuff which I'll put up on site in the near future.
