I watched the fight yesterday and although Lee had a very polished and impressive performance a couple of things concerned me.Firstly, when Gibbs went all out in the last round he caught Lee with a big left and shortly after with a huge right which appeared to hurt Lee as all he did for the next minute was hold Gibbs.He really needs to shore up his defense which overall was good but he let his guard down too often.
Secondly Lee's power is overrated especially in his left hand.I know the KO came from a straight left but Gibbs was completely gased at this stage.Lee's main power seems to be in his right hook which looked effective at times but i wish he would throw it more - he barely threw it once against Vera.
I'm not getting too down on him but fighting the likes on Pavlik or Abraham anytime soon would be suicide.I would prefer to see him go after Sturm's title or wait until Pavlik moves up and go after that belt

 

it was an all over impressive performance...yes with some flaws...but i expect him to work on them...but what was also important was the fight was great pr for lee here in ireland...i was speaking to a couple of guys who watched it in the local bar...they said there was 40 r 50 guys in the bar cheering and yelling when lee won...now thats the sort of reaction...that will make people tune in next time he fights...and thats supposed to b in limerick in october:good

 

Good points AA or Pavlik are way too good for Lee at the minute.
Pavlik though to me looks to be going up weigh Hopkins is next at 170
and Calzaghe after that will make Pavliks last 3 fights at supermiddle.
Andy just needs to get himself into the top 10 so when Pavlik gives up the title he is at least in the running for a title shot.
If he keeps boxing the way he did the other night he would hold his own with any middle in the world excluding the above two.

 

pavliks last fight against lockett was at middle...i think lockett was wbo no1 contender...pavlik and aa are meant to b fighting in febuary :good

 

Hey BigEars, unfortunately the Lindsay vs. Garza bout was cancelled (for the 2nd time now), with the only reason given "due to unforeseen circumstances." Garza is now fighting Olivier Lontchi for the NABA belt on the Molitor undercard. Hopefully Lindsay will be back at Rama in November on the Molitor vs. Caballero undercard.



By any chance did any Irish fans on here go see the Lee/Mcloskey show live? If you did, any comments on the Canadian fighter who made his pro debut on the card, Logan McGuinness? Thanks.

 

I can see why the Wright camp feel a bit hard done by, i think Mcloskey won it but not by the margin the ref gave it.how did Haughian look Ardy he seems to be one for the future, do ya think he could make it at world or maybe european level

 

I think if Paul goes on to win a british or european title then he should give Wright a rematch.I had Paul by one round but most rounds were close.
However i had paul winning the first two rounds before the clash of heads closed his eye.This seriously hindered Pauls visibilty and wright capatalised on this.So let them do it again for a title as it is a match that deserves a big night and hopefully Mc Closkey can win cleary this time.

I wasn't in Limerick that night, but a friend of mine was. He told me McGuinness performed well, and it was clear from his performance he must have been a decent amateur.I hope that helps.
