Injured shoulder apparently, these things happen unfortunately but it does mean he is now in a shoot out where one bad performance or dubious judging and the Olympic dream is over,
http://m.independent.ie/sport/mma/mma-star-joao-carvalho-dies-after-saturdays-fight-at-national-stadium-34620102.html It was only a matter of time...... Lets hope this MMA garbage doesnt impact too negatively on boxing.
it could just as easily have been a boxing match... theres always an element of risk in contact sports :good
Only positive is there will be 5 places at the world qualifiers and the field in all the other continents is already cleaned out there's no one there My way of looking at it is if he cant qualify from them qualifiers then he has really really let himself down
So your asking members of a boxing forum do they think MMA should be banned because its violent ? Look what happened to Blackwell 2 weeks ago, your a bad troll.
No - I'm asking members of a boxing forum do they think MMA should be banned because its TOO violent. Unacceptably violent. There is a difference. Boxing is about at the upper limit of what is acceptable in a civilized society. Its where I draw the line. I have standards. I have a 'line'. You have no 'line'? You don't think there should be limit to what is acceptable? If we follow your logic we may just as well bring back Gladiatorial combat and have people fighting to the death with weapons and watch them hacking each other to pieces for 'sport'. :yikes
Thats right Fra..."theres always an element of risk in contact sports" ...I can see you've really thought this one through alright....alla them pesky 'contact sports' are all the same, right? Yeah - except thats exactly what the 'authorities' will say one of these days when they lump boxing in with MMA and attack 'em both.
I know, wishful thinking on my part that Pajo might do it. One thing I have noticed Pajo is the much bigger man, if he can bring that into play he could make it interesting.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mma-fighter-dies-ko-dublin-bout-142707093.html not boxing but damn
Is this qualifying tournament the last way for Irish guys to qualify?? I thought there were a couple of more tournaments before the Olympics?
Yes we noticed that alright. MMA is disgusting thuggery and this will almost certainly damage boxing because in the minds of a lot of people both boxing and MMA are lumped together as "combat sports", and are "all the same".... MMA a should never have been allowed take hold here in the first place...but we Irish did what we always do...buried our head in the sand. Sadly it's likely we will miss this opportunity also, because the lad who died was some "foreign nobody". In a way, if someone had to die, it would have been better if it was someone "important". Someone with a high profile like our MMA star McGregor. Not that I wish him any harm personally, but His death might have forced us into banning MMA. Conor is "famous" here. His life matters. That's how it works here.
