European champion, beating Bacskai and Sissokho. Lost in APB to Sipal, Okwiri and Zamkoyov but defeated Kate. Beat Adam Nolan 2-1 in the worlds as well as Maestre but lost to Wei.
The good fighters not yet qualified include Kroll of the USA, Marcial, Bacskai, Kastramin from Belarus who won European silver, and beat Nolan, Sipal, Donnelly and lost to Elussinov in the Worlds and Belous in the qualifier.
Gold should rest between Rabii, Eleusinov, Iglesias and Mangiacapre. Giyasov could surprise as could Kroll if he qualifies. Donnelly is as good as any of the rest, is fresh but needs some 3x3 action.

Lee was fighting a guy in the top 5 in the world.

Macklin was fighting a guy who probably isn't top 5 in Britain

That's not my point. Macklin has never been found wanting when it comes down to who wants it more. Both were in the same position in their respective fights. Lee surrendered the fight and his title rather tamely, jmatt never diid. Real warrior is macklin. Different class. Would have beat Andy easily in his prime.

not getting much air-time here but Kelly Harrington was magnificent and her Silver winning performance was class, switching seamlessly from orthodox to southpaw and back.

I think Macklin was lucky to get a few bites at the cherry for a world title, but the common feature is that Macklin is a tough s****per, not the most skilled but tough as teak, you will prob get so far with this but not the top, Andy was far superior in the skill stakes but prob could have done with some more of the s****ping skills to be world class, was always hoping for Andy to fight Macklin, would have been great spectacle and I thought Andy would take him all day long.

Good post.....also I felt KATIE was hard done by. The judges were awful. Bit of a worry for Rio.

Agreed. Both girls only lost split decisions .....I felt KATIE won personally. Just to add that the girls are a badly needed breath of fresh air for the country at a time of unrelenting bad news coverage of out of control crime, corruption, injustice etc
Let's hope the boxing success continues in Rio.😀🏆

Thoughts on Tommy McCarthys performance at the boys?

Read a few comments elsewhere saying they were unimpressed which I found quite suprising. I thought he boxed very well and faught a smart fight in his first 10rounder against a solid British level fighter on only his ninth pro fight. He might have gassed a bit near end of fight but he was never in any trouble and almost got JLD out of there on the last round. I think he can go on to have a good career.

I though he looked great and didn't know he was such a good counter puncher

Anyone see the news 16 year old Arron McKenna is having he's pro debut in mexico next month?
