What's with the 3-word posts fra? You on strike?!
Katie and conlon both clearly won and were indeed robbed.
Even if Katie and Mick won gold there are big problems still in our am boxing.

Losing Billy Walsh.
Katie's loss of form pre Rio.
Barnes weight fiasco
The mishandled o Reilly "drug" disaster.
Doj coming in dry and starting so sloooow ...when his only hope was a fast start.
Ward getting suckered into a wrestling match.
How our team mgmt failed to cop on to the fact that aggression was the tactics judges favoured at Rio. Etc etc etc

I agree two poor decisions that cost us 2 medals will be used to paper over alot of cracks,
I truly believe this team was over trained which would answer alot of the questions about performances,
As to the O Reilly situation where was the team manager, surely it is up to him to take issues like this by the scruff of the neck and let everyone (especially the boxers) know exactly what was going on.
Barnes weight issue is the worst kept secret in irish boxing but he has always been able to perform and win,a series of unfortunate events here,no sat weigh in,being drawn to box in the afternoon seisson not the nighttime all confounded an already desperate situation,
The team looked unsure and not confident,i wonder if the team psychologist was there i have heard them speak about this guy in glowing terms during successful campaigns.it didnt look like the world beaters with that bit of swagger we are used to seeing,

This will clobber Irish amateur boxing. Probably none of this team will be around in 4 yrs time. Who wil replace them? Why would anyone bother after this fiasco.? In any case Boxing in the olympics is pretty much over for the forseeable future, I think so anyway.

Perfect storm of disasters. Drugs, boxing team collapse, corrupt judging, and now Hickey. You couldn't rite a novel with all this in it. You couldn't make it up! On another level it is par for the course with us Irish. I suppose it is naive of us to assume the sports and Olympic effort would be exempt from the knackery culture of stupidity, division , greed and selfishness and corruption that pervades every other area of irish society and Irish people In general. Sickening.

The only person to blame for the O'Reilly Saga is the man himself. He ****ed up an nobody else including iaba can be blamed for that.
Katies performance. Had nothing to do with Billy Walsh. As he was never in her corner anyway. Ill admit i need to watch her fight again.
Con.an ribbed by judges and ward robbed by ref even though i feel his opponent was almist impossible to box against. With a ref like that not taking control. Dono simply met a better opponent as did irvine and donnely did well. My 2 cents worth is that people. Are over ****yzing. This.

Om a separate nite im publicly. Defending. Fefgal carruth over the iaiaba v Billy walsh debate at the same. Timeim nit blaming Billy.First off he is o ly xeo for 2 years and Billy has been un a restrained relationship with the iaba. Since 2007 and thats been well documented, not to say iaba are squeaky clean buf certainly fergal carruth is.

I have to question some of what you say there Paddymickey. You cant say those things for sure, mate.

O'Reilly was tested 14 times in 30 months and was always clean. He is not a habitual cheat - like for example Russians jamaicans, Kenyans etc. He never cheated under Billy Walsh. A good strong manager like BW CAN keep 'difficult' athletes in line. We will obviously never know now but maybe BW would have done a better job handling a character like OReilly.

Katies morale MIGHT have been better with BW around. Her [U']performance' was below prime Katie, sure, but it was enough to beat that 35 yr old mother of 2. Katie was robbed - and the robbers might have been a bit slower to rob a boxer who had a global boxing 'heavyweight' figure like BW in the team. Same with the Ward ref.

Both Carruths have always been very lacking in their support for Billy. Very 'mealy-mouthed' altogether. AIBA clearly lied to Fergal Carruth about removing the Conlon judges and he repeated it as fact before seeing proof. Not very convincing from Fergal there IMO.

Billy Walsh is going from strength to strength with the USA in these games.
Hard to argue with results - or the lack of results.

Do the people - like the Carruths and Conlons - who repeatedly state he was no loss to Irish boxing also believe he's been of no benefit to the USA?

I believe he has been a benefit to the USA a new broom sweeps clean and all that,i do believe that the new scoring system has helped the American team more however, they have always boxed this type of professional style but the older scoring system was not suited to it,that's the main reason for no medals at the last olympics,

For months/years you lot have been boasting "our amateur boxers are amazing, so dey are".

What do you say now, paddies? What a typically Irish performance from them all.

Connor McGregor is the best thing to come out of Ireland bar none. Your boxers were, are, and always will be $h1t.

http://www.irish-boxing.com/controversy-irish-judge-involved-olympic-heavyweight-final-robbery/

Mick Conon wasnt the only boxer robbed. If anything the Levit robbery was worse. Now it turns out an Irish judge was apparently involved.

Seems Mr Gallagher has questions to answer..
Anybody know anything about this?

Did he REALLY score the 3rd round to Tischenko??????

i watched it in a pub so no commentary with two boxing judges and it looked to me that the right man won, they agreed
Yokas shots were easy to score and although Joyce outworked him the french lads defence was very good,
A little bit more shifting and Joyce could have opened him up more but im not so sure Joyce has the ability to do that,Just an opinion but i think the better boxer won on the night,
