Cummings is sturdy and a solid performer, with decent power, but he seems to lack the couple of extra gears to get to the next level. He just seems to maybe be not a good enough athlete. I'm not sure such physical limitations will be overcome-able either, no matter how hard he trains.
Here is Cummings fight.... http://www.irish-boxing.com/watch-conrad-cummings-v-ronny-mittag/ For me Cummings is a bit of a misfit...he fights at the wrong range and in the wrong style for a man with his attributes. He is not athletic and fluid enough to be a pure boxer and he has good power. Yet he chooses to stand upright with zero head movement within range...so he gets picked off over and over. With his attributes he would be better off fighting out of a crouch and throwing a lot more punches in my opinion. What I mean is that I don't think he has the speedy skills and fluidity to make a success of being an upright boxer at medium-long range, as he is currently doing IMO. But he probably DOES have the strength, toughness and power to make a success of a more aggressive all-out attacking style. Its at least worth giving it a try at this stage. What has he got to lose? One more thing....this fight result was NOT "hugely controversial" as claimed by the Irish boxing website. Conrad leaves himself open to losing decisions. Only himself to blame.
After the Kovalev robbery last night maybe now people will understand why I'm so dubious about the wisdom of Frampton rematching LSC in Vegas. It's a very real worry folks.....
Mccarthy was so bad he needs another career...fast! He shudda paid more attention in school or something cos he ain't No kind of boxer.
Bad weekend for the northern lads paddy gal,Tommy mc and conrad Cummings all beaten in tough competitive fights, And so the trend of our lads losing the step up fights continues,
What do you make of Cummings .....er.....shortcummings? Do you agate with any of the points I made about him? For me Cummings is a bit of a misfit...he fights at the wrong range and in the wrong style for a man with his attributes. He is not athletic and fluid enough to be a pure boxer while at the same time he definitely does have good power. Yet he chooses to stand upright....I've a pure boxer...but with with zero head movement within range...so he gets picked off over and over. This is crazy stuff. He needs to change his style a lot. With his attributes he would be better off fighting out of a crouch and throwing a lot more punches in my opinion. In a much more aggressive fashion. What I mean is that I don't think he has the speedy skills and fluidity to make a success of being an upright boxer at medium-long range, as he is currently, and in my opinion foolishly, trying to do IMO. But he probably DOES have the strength, toughness and power to make a success of a more aggressive all-out attacking style. Its at least worth giving it a try at this stage. What has he got to lose?
Anyone watch the world ypuths today? Nevin and donavom were class . I thought McGinty was great was class aswell but was on the wrong end of a shocking decision.
Not buying the Shocking decision for Mc Ginnty i felt he took a lot of shots on the way in, ithought he might have got it though but not a robbery for me, Nevin was absolute class for me,Donovan aswell but his opponent was a lot poorer than nevins,Those two will take beating in this championship i think,
A robbery is where you look good, dominate and win clearly but still don't get the nod. That didn't happen. (It can be close but as long as it's clear you can call it a robbery.) Boxing being subjective means if you leave it close and/or fail to make it clear, you leave yourself open to losing on the cards. That's just the way boxing is was and always will be. Crying robbery every time the guy you favour doesn't get the nod is pointless. The Irish lads were very disappointing. Mccarthy ihas no ability and needs to give up boxing. There is some small hope for Cummings but he needs to make big changes. Big changes.
Just watched the McGinty fight again. I'm going to have to disagree with you. I thought he clearly won rounds 2 and 3. Dossen and O'Reilly both won today. Dossen beat an american opponent who had none other than Billy Walsh in his corner.
