Yeh whats the story with Peters and McCloskey. I know Peters was with McCloskey on Sky Sports a couple of times? And Ironically it's because of Sky Sports tie with Maloney that Peters felt a Dunne - Munroe fight did not happen last year citing RTE as his broadcasting affiliate! Is it that Peters affiliation with RTE is only regarding Dunne or that his promotional contract with McCloskey is non exclusive?

There is a numbness in my at this moment, that I can't shake free from. I would hazard a guess the majority of the posters on this thread and the British Forum feel the same.

I would hope at the Dunne fight there will be something speical done in memory of the Dazzler. A little highlights then a minutes applause would be a nice touch from Brian Peters.

You know I was always weary of some of the bandwagon fans of Dunne who were less interested in boxing and more ineterested in drunken tribalism and making fools of themselves. I was always more in to the national stadium type show then the point depot type! You know what I mean. But I was pleasantly surprised by the type of people that showed up at the Cordoba fight. I saw hardly any scumbags which was great. And best of all was that 90% of the fans appluaded Cordoba after the panamanian anthem. I'd be so embarassed if we ever descended to the so called hatton fans who showed up in Vegas to boo the USA national anthem. Any fan of boxing knows one of it's great virtues is respect. That's how you can always single out the bandwagon fans from the genuine fans.

Rogan And Sexton Calm Before The Storm!

Commonwealth heavyweight title challenger Martin Rogan has offered an olive branch to rival Sam Sexton - until they get between the ropes. The pair meet in their highly-anticipated second showdown on November Friday 6 at Belfast's Odyssey Arena. It follows a controversial classic in May when Sexton, who had been out on his feet earlier in the round, halted Rogan in the eighth because the then champion had a badly swollen eye..

The temperature ahead of the rematch peaked at boiling point over the summer when Rogan and Sexton clashed at a Belfast press conference.

A furious Rogan accused Sexton of attempting to divide the Ulster community, an allegation the Norwich champion vigorously denied.

Today, during a conference call, Rogan backed down, blamed his outburst on difficulties he was having outside the ring at the time - and underlined the respect he has for Sexton.

"Emotions were running high, and unfortunately that's how they came out," said Rogan.

"I think there was something in the air, and as far as I'm concerned I definitely wasn't myself that day.

"I have no issues with Sam Sexton and I hope there are no hard feelings. Emotions were running high and I would like to rectify a few things.

"What we have to remember is that this is a night of boxing. It's a family affair and parents will be coming with their children. Sam and I have to show our sportsmanship.

"I have plenty of respect for him for agreeing to come back to Belfast.

"I know how difficult it is to be on the road because I went to England when I boxed Audley Harrison and Matt Skelton."

But however gentlemanly Rogan has promised to be outside the ring, he vowed to do the business between the ropes come fight night.

"I learned a few things in that first fight and I was probably too naive in letting Sexton off the hook," he said. "I won't make the same mistake again."

Of Rogan's previous outburst, Sexton said: "I had no idea what it was all about. I was told to do a press workout in a certain gym which was a protestant one, but I also visited a Catholic gym as well.

"I don't understaind what it is all about. I'm coming to Belfast to box, I don't know a thing about politics."

And of the fight he added: "Every time I fight I'm getting stronger, I'm getting fitter and I'm getting faster.

"I am now a much better fighter than the one who boxed Rogan in May, and the result won't be different second time around.

McCloskey and Rogan title fights in separate venues

    Wednesday, 16 September 2009

    Search Search

Paul McCloskey and Martin Rogan will go head to head in a battle of the box office on November 6.
McCloskey’s European light-welterweight title showdown with Souleymane M’Baye will be staged on the same date as Martin Rogan’s mouthwatering re-match with Commonwealth heavyweight champion Sam Sexton at the Odyssey Arena.
The bizarre situation has arisen due to Rogan-Sexton being postponed from next month and McCloskey’s promoters Matchroom Promotions having the Sky television date.
While it would be unusual for such a huge fight as Rogan-Sexton to go ahead without television, promoter Frank Warren is adamant that the show goes on.
Warren said: “We have a great fight, we’ve half the venue sold and we’re going to have a great undercard so we’re going ahead.
“I don’t believe the other show will hurt us, I can only think it will be the other way around. Anyway, people can watch the other show on television and come to watch ours.”
Matchroom Promotions, run by Barry Hearn, are not backing down and spokesman John Wischhusen is adamant that McCloskey will have his chance on the same night.
Wischhusen said: “It seems to be a real coincidence just because the Rogan fight was postponed. We have commitments to Sky and this is the date they have given us.
“The fight goes on outside of the Belfast area and Paul is relieved that he is finally getting his chance at the European title.”
It leaves fight fans with a crazy choice to make unless sense can prevail and one of the bills can be transferred to another date.
Former British champion Neil Sinclair is the main supporting act on Rogan-Sexton, with Kevin O’Hara also on the show.
Amazingly on the same night, Mike Tyson comes to the Waterfront Hall.
