Is Alan Minter the worst Middleweight Champion ever?

I can't think of one way in which Minter could have beaten Hagler short of hitting him with a bat, and even then thats not a given. Hagler was just so much better than Alan...having said that, to claim Minter as the worst MW champion ever is just trolling.

** Minters "No black man is going to take my title" comment was pretty ill advised, probably a good job that Hagler never heard it.

Minter was a very good fighter,there have been far lesser fighters hold the title.Someone already mentioned Joppy,Holmes is another one and did Paul Jones not hold a belt at one time,the list is much longer but thats 3 for starters.

 

Many feel Bhop deserved those wins, Ouma was an inflated junior middleweight, he barely eeked out a split decision in a terrible fight against an inflated welterweight in Spinks, many feel Winky deserved the decision, he beat a post-Calzaghe Lacy (big whoop!) and was hardly annihlating Froch (winning clearly but not annihlating) and the stamina issues are whose fault? The only correct point in your post is that he was a major underacheiver.

he was lucky with the judges in both hopkins fights, and struggled badly against l/middleweights.

 

Taylor was never that good. Nowhere near ATG potential.

He could win on cuts but I think Minter would bully him and finish stronger,taking a hard earned ud. Really good match up now I think about it.

 

Over the 15 round distance Taylor has got a cornets chance in hell of beating Minter

His son Ross Minter reguarly comes down my boxing gym, he's good mates with my trainer. He organises some Unlicensed Shows, nice bloke.

Seeing you're so desperate for cred here amoungst yer peers on ESB please tell all of us what your knowledge of Hagler was back in 1980 & supply source material such as what newspapers of the day said & what papers & mags did you read back then that gave you such a wonderful insite as to what was going to happen
