I dont know why they dont just make the Marquez fight to appease the fans. Manny is a better fighter now that at any point in his career, where as I dont think Marquez is better than he has ever been, although recent performances might suggest otherwise, but like Pacquiao, Marquez seems to be quite adept at fighting pressure guys and has recently looked spectacular doing it, however he has never beaten Manny, so I cant see why they would feel apprehensive about taking that fight, especially when Marquez is probably not as good as he once was.

Why not get into purses? Clottey and Margorito both got a simular amount to fight Pacquoiao and there upsides boosted that amount.

Both are world champions. Martinez may be lineal champ, which we all love but in the grand scheme of things its meaningless. the fight would be at 155-156lbs, so its not really for either mans belt. Certainly Cotto would not go on to defend it if he won.

Cotto brings the crowd and the PPV. Thats why he should get paid more.

I don't have a problem with the Marquez fight being at 144lbs. Pacquiao's last fight at 151lbs he weighed in at 144 and came to the ring at 148lbs. Marquez last fight he entered the ring at 146lbs. I don't think the weight is as big a deal as people make out.

They should just say theres no weight limit.

I don't see the weight being an issue in a Pacquiao vs Marquez fight.

More the three blind mice that will be judging again :-(

Who exactly do you want him to fight that is 'live'? There is nobody out there he hasn't beat except Mayweather and I don't think you can put all the blame on them for that.

He's beat Cotto, Margarito and Clottey. May as well do Shane too, I don't see many other options. Berto? I don't believe thats a better fight.

Agree. I don't like the way the Mosley fight seems to have been made with no attempt to make the Mayweather fight (this time round)

    :deal

Mayweather and Martinez aside, the list of credible opponents is quite small. The fact that Martinez is even mentioned is evidence of how much Pac has outgrown the others around him. Far too big a fighter for Pac.

As TFFP says, at welter, who is there? Berto is a KO waiting to happen and has been for a while. Shane is shot. Marquez has slowed and is campaigning at too high a weight imo, winner of Bradley v Alexander is credible but Pac would be criticised for making them come up to 147. After that, I'm out of ideas.

Pac v Floyd simply has to happen. After that, every potential opponent will be criticised.

Mayweather's facing a possible prison sentence. There's no point in negotiating a fight with him.

It's not that bad. He is facing the equivilent of a suspended sentence at worse and a few million law suit...change to Mayweather.

I'm not as excited about Marquez either. Those fights seem a lifetime ago now in Pacquiao's career. I think Marquez has been showing vulnerabilities against fairly standard world class opponents whereas Pacquiao has stepped up another gear against better opponents and has been more dominant than Marquez. I'm not sure even the stylistic edge Marquez enjoys would save him this time.

I wouldn't say any of the opponents Pacquiao has faced since Marquez are better than Marquez at all.

    Bigger yes, better no.

Unless you mean that those opponents are better than the ones Marquez has been facing..... in which case it's debatable.

I'm of the opinion that people are going overboard as to Pacquiao's achievements and supposed huge improvements he's made since he moved up from 130..... when a significant proportion of that should be allocated to facing some opponents that are there to make him look good (Clottey, Margarito).

Marquez is the best opponent available to him, and the fight has meaning - who gives a **** if he beats Mosley? Shane couldn't even get the job done against a C-level Mora.

Yup. The time of these fights being classics has gone. Mayweather or bust for me.

And given that a Floyd fight looks unlikely, picking an alternative becomes a case of "any of the rest".

Thats what I mean, the opponents are better. Its not a matter of size or p4p comparisons here because its a direct comparison. Margarito is a more accomplished pressure fighter than Katsidis, not much doubt about that, and I don't think there is any argument that Cotto isn't superior to Juan Diaz. I'd give him Casamayor over Clottey. Pacquiao has been fighting bigger, harder punching, more accomplished fighters.

I agree I'd just about prefer to see Marquez but I wouldn't be too excited expecting a similar outcome to their previous fights. Too much water under the bridge.
