Is anyone here old enough to remember Frazier losing the title to Foreman?

Wether Frazier fits into a top ten is a debatable question. It’s not debatable that Joe proved a very high level of durability all through his career EXCEPT when being hit by Foreman. Reason is George hit like a sledgehammer.

It's so tempting to completely agree with you...but sorry, FOTC Frazier would have smoked his way out of George's power range and kicked the living crap out of him.

I realize this is my opinion, but FOTC was the biggest and most badass mutha... (shut yo mouth).

Frazier would have no answer to George’s power. Any one blow, at any time, would at the very least put Frazier on ***** Street. Very hard to be competitive when you are semi conscious.

Joe's smoking was a defensive tool as much as it was anything else. Hard to put someone on ***** St. when you aren't landing.

Joe never smoked the way he did in FOTC. Only traces remained, and those showed up in the TiM...and I guess I'll say a little in the Quarry II fight, though that was also a very different Quarry.

All of this is just my unpopular opinion, so I won't try to sell it. All respect to your views, my friend.

Not exactly. Frazier looked a little vulnerable vs Stander and didn’t look great vs Daniels either. Neither guy was close to being ranked I the top ten, yet they received a shot at the lineal title.

Frazier didn’t train as hard after beating Ali in the early 1970’s. Some of his smoke was gone. His style and mediocre chin spelled curtains at the hands of Foreman.

I respectfully disagree. I love Joe!...but...in any of his fights (against those Ranked)...Joe was tagged; that was his game. Take shots, keep on Smokin'!! A pre-Ali Foreman (mid to late 72-to 'melt-down land' against Ali) would have eventually destroyed the FOTC Joe. It just may have taken a couple of rounds longer. A goodly handful of ATG's had their "styles make fights and I'm just unable to do it here" moment. IMHO this would have been Joe's 'moment'...my $0.02

Frazier never beats Foreman, why do people say FOTC Frazier was like the best heavyweight ever or something? Ali was so rusty at that time, Frazier couldn't have ever beaten Foreman or a prime Ali imo

Hindsight is always 20/20. Absolutely Frazier was thought of as unbeatable after his heroic fight with Ali in 71 and prior decimation of the hwt division. This was why he was the favorite going into his bout with Foreman.

I’m pretty sure the person frantically screaming “stoooop the fiiiight!!!” is Angelo Dundee, but I don’t know first blurts out “He’s gonna kill him!” about a minute earlier. If I recall correctly it’s only audible in the BBC broadcast.

Edit: Not BBC, somehow there’s a version with Don Dunphy calling the fight rather than Howard Cosell. Anyway it’s at 13:43. Anyone know who that was?

Love The Beatles, but for me another British band a couple of years later would top that with an album called Who's Next.

Foreman was the very epitome of the stylistic night mare for Joe.Frazier, because of his size and reach could only be effective up close
He fought this way in all his fights ,generally with success, but he only met one huge two fisted puncher who was 4/5inches taller, strong as an ox ,with a 5 1/2" reach advantage. All George had to do was wait for Joe to come in clout him with either hand, uppercut him inside then push him back out to his optimum range and start again, it was like a man giving a child a drubbing.
What you don't do against a an ATG puncher who is also significantly bigger , is march straight into his wheel house!
Frazier was a great fighter but essentially a one trick one,he had one modus operandi and on the occasions it didn't work he was totally bereft of any effective variation from it.
"I won't have to go looking for him,he will be right there in front of me"
Prime Foreman beats prime Frazier 7 days a week.

Sorry folks OT, but yeah it's pretty cool Pete and Roger are the Who Two you could say.

I'll always miss Keith Moon, and thought the Who went downhill significantly after he was gone (I do like Endless Wire though).
