Obviously the name of the game is to win. But losing is not the end of the world. It should be about fighting the best fighters that you can. If you look at the Barrera vs Morales fights and the Pac vs Marquez fights losing did not do any of them any harm. It added to there reputation because they fought the best and put on a good show.

You sure you watched the same fight as the rest of us did? That was not an easy fight for Joe. He may have thrown alot more than BHOP but when Hopkins did throw he connected flush most of the time with effective shots. Both men troubled each other: Joe with his insane workrate and Hopkins with the counterpunching that kept Joe honest enough to not try and run over Hopkins.

It´s somewhat overrated to be undefeated. Look at Arreola and Kevin Johnson getting shots at Vitali, with no chance of winning - cause they are undefeated.

IMO PBF does not duck anyone. And is not SCARED of losing his undefeated streak. IMO he doesn't feel any of these fighters could beat him, so I don't believe he is scared of any of them.

In PBF's view point he expects all top young fighters to do what Oscar De La Hoya has done, which is the blue print that he followed. That is for fighters to build up there hype and there own brand like a Golden Boy or Pretty Boy to the level that when they fight they can break records with PPVs.

That is why he didn't fight Hatton or Cotto or Williams earlier in there careers. He could have fought Hatton directly after Tzyu, but he would have probably only earned 7-8mil for that fight. He could have fought all 3 of those undefeated fighters at that time. He could have probably beat all three of them. But at the end of the day at that stage of there careers he would have probably made about 7-8 mil off of each. He asked to fight both Hatton and Cotto for 10mil a piece and was shot down by his own promoter at the time Arum as Arum probably didn't like the amount of money that he would have probably ended up getting out of those fights.

Instead he wanted each of them including Margarito (if he could) to build up his own hype and brand to the level where each of these fights could earn him 15-20 mil each rather then 7-8mil. Same thing will apply for an Andre Berto.

Besides we all know he is going to fight Pac or Cotto next for 20mil. Would that not equate to putting his undefeated streak on the line vs top comp.

It's the Ridiculously High and Unreasonable Expectations Syndrome. . .of which most posters here suffer. It also ties into the No-Win Scenario Syndrome in which if you struggle in a win against Opponent X you suck. If you beat Opponent X easily it was because Opponent X was a bum and you remain unproven and your resume continues to suck. Also, if you school Opponent X over 8 rounds you still suck because any half decent fighter would have taken Opponent X out in 2 rounds max.

I think any real fan of the sport would agree that being undefeated is totally overrated.

We wanna see the best fight the best, and when that happens, someone's gonna lose. I've looked at a guy like Berto for the past few years and said (regarding his undefeated status), "I dunno... looks to me like he hasn't really been tested yet."

To me, a legendary fighter isn't made only by winning, but also by how he responds to defeat.

It's good to see that even fellow Boxers are sick of Floyd's ducking.

Sometimes, having an exciting style and being undefeated doesn't match.

Anytime Hopkins threw, he got hit with shots. Were they better than the shots he was hitting with? No. Hopkins landed probably four or five shots that were better than anything Joe landed.

The difference was, Joe was willing to eat those shots in order to throw shots of his own. He won the fight easily because he made Hopkins reluctant to trade with him, any time Hopkins opened up past the first two rounds, he got pushed back and hit.

I could go and find a million photos of Hopkins face being readjusted during that fight by short hand counters by Joe, but theres no point.

Anyone who viewed the fight as close, doesn't know how to score a fight. You don't win the fight with five effective punches when the other guy hits you with 50 less effective ones
