Can't deny his fighters do well. I knew he wouldn't of trained Leigh unless he saw something in him. Xu wasn't good tonight but Woods was, have to give him a lot of credit as he was a decent underdog and he won at a canter.
He irritates me immensely at times as he has nowhere near the experience or expertise to be anything like as analytical as he comes across but, he's getting the results and he's nowhere near as up his own arse as Adam Booth who made his reputation off of two supremely talented fighters who in the end did better without him in Haye and Groves. Christ! I reckon even I could have made a great rep as a Coach off the talent of those two fighters and he sure as hell got it all wrong with Kelly since.
There appears to be a great deal of suspicion towards Ben Davison...people can't seem to quite put their finger on it. It's that what's annoying? "Time will tell."
I think it’s because he tries to act with the gravitas of someone much older than he is and it comes across as a bit strange. People aren’t used to seeing trainers younger than fighters and to have any credibility BD wouldn’t be able to talk like your average 20 something.
Every fighter he has trained had already "served their apprenticeship " if you like and their ability and level already established. And he happens to have had a few elite level talents in his stable too. Its a case of fighters making the trainer for sure.
In the case of Emanual Steward, I have to disagree. He was almost solely responsible for turning WK and Lewis into the ATG HW's they became and turned Tommy Hearns into one of the PFP all time great KO artists.
The thing with Davison is when he talks you get the feeling he expects a round of applause after every insightful comment he makes. I keep hearing that he has a really **** hot analyst behind the scenes who does the oppo research. Wonder how much he does in terms of crafting the fight plan as well.
