Is Big George the only man to drop Frazier?

IIRC, The commentators noted that there were newly installed red lights on the corner posts to indicate 10 secs before the finish of a round.

Prior to that I believe they would manually indicate the final 10 sec mark by sound - using a cowbell ? I think. The commentators figured that Perez had misinterpreted the activated red light to have have signalled the end of the round.

If that’s correct, it was still a major brain f*rt on Perez’s part. LOL.

Still, given a full round, I think Frazier would’ve stayed on his feet and weathered the storm - he was fuelled by pathological hatred toward Ali - and at the end of the trilogy and a sum total of 41 rounds, at least Joe could’ve said “You never got me down Muhammad!” - similar to the sentiment expressed to Ray Robinson by another well known fighter who absolutely refused to fall to Ray.

    I dont really get it.
The fight was scored on the N.Y. round scoring system (With a supplementary points system if nessesary)
You have Frazier winning 8 rounds to 2 - How can that be a bery narrow victory??

Exactly. I challenge anyone to name a boxer who'd remain conscious after 6 knockdowns from big George.

Can I say exactly for a second time (squared?) ?

To expand on the 6 KDs - I would add that, IMO, they were yielded by the biggest punches George ever laid on an opponent (save Chuvalo perhaps). To whatever degree George connected on Ali, even as per George and Ali himself, per my own eyes, Foreman did not connect on Ali like he did on Joe - it was BRUTAL - absolutely flush - a fully leveraged, translation of power.

I have a very hard time imagining Ali surviving the those exact same punches if George was able to land on Ali thusly.

In a way, Joe going down but bouncing up to keep fighting might’ve been somewhat equivalent to moments when Ali somehow held his feet when hurt - but with Ali still being momentarily “out” at the same time. It was like Frazier was made out of Indian Rubber.

Nothing wrong with Joe’s chin - he just simply got caught cleaner than Ali at times - and Joe’s own go forward could also lend to the sum impact - as if you’d want to add any more oomph to Foreman’s absolute power.

That's right - Mike Bruce had him down once; Bonavena twice in their 1966 fight; Foreman had him down six times in their first fight, and twice in the rematch for a total of 11 career KDs.

I don't know but Little George caused quite a few knockouts and knockdowns as well. Mostly jumping rope though. It's apparently why Big George focused more on strength training.

    Yep think your right bud.
Joe even if dropped, would have climbed right back up and steamed in.
