What I find interesting about Alvarez's popularity with the Mexican fans is, in part, due to his looks, coloring. He is very fair compared to most Mexicans. Has more of an Irish look to him. And for most Mexicans it seems to make him more appealing. If he had the same record with the same results and looked like Angulo I doubt there would be near the hype that there is now. He is a very good, solid fighter but not of the caliber they are making him out to be. My view is GGG beats him and probably by KO. But Alvarez has enough power to make it interesting. In other words, I wouldn't say it is a given but the odds should be at least 3 to 1 for GGG going into the fight, and would be more like 6 to 1 if it weren't for the Mexican fan.
The only thing holding back Canelo is his stamina. It seems that it's only gotten worse as he's grown older due to him cutting weight to stay @ "155". His body has matured and it shows. IM sure you can put the blame solely on Oscar.
Fed handpicked opponents and seems to have lost some power. Good defense means he can win decisions by not getting KOed and buying friendly judges, e.g. Lara.
he is overrated. just check how he won his fights. he is just being groomed and protected as a cash cow due to his mexican connection with no other option at present.
Canelo is a great counter puncher. You guys don't appreciat counter punchers like JMM. No one loved JMM until he became a bit more agressive.
A little. Cotto is a faded fighter and Canelo should have made this a statement fight. He failed. I have nothing against him but he failed to impress.
Canelo is the same level fighter as a prime cotto or Bradley. World class. He will give 90% of fighters a great fight if not beat them. But just falls slightly short of that elite level fighter. But there arnt many of them elite level fighters out there.
Margaritos beat down Of cotto in the first fight with Bricks in his Gloves, took Half his prime from him.
By Monroe Jr and a couple of posters here he is. He is pretty good though, and I think most have the right idea about his strengths and weaknesses. I was more impressed by Cotto keeping up the energie enough in the later rounds so he wouldn't get stopped by the younger and bigger man.
