Is Canelo overrated?

I dont like the comparison in the OP

How does Pacquiao winning better signify Canelo as overrated?

Pacquaio by some is a top 25 ATG and a top 50 to others, I'm sure even the biggest Floyd fans have him top 75. Also Manny was a southpaw, Cotto didnt have a guy like Roach in his corner and could be argued to be at the wrong weight having to cut extra pounds for the fight

Canelo won and I'm shocked to see such disagreemant on the scoring of this fight then again some people on here thought Manny beat Floyd so I guess I shouldnt be so shocked

That said I dont think Canelo is that overrated. I think most people take him for what he is and see his limitations and flaws but understand his talents. I think head to head he is usually picked properly.

 

The Canelo vs Cotto fight did remind me a bit of JMM vs Tim Bradley. I thought that was one of the worst scored matches in recent memory. JMM got absolutely no credit for all the work he did, and everybody settled into the narrative that Tim Bradley was young and invincible while JMM was old and on his way out. Really, that fight was close just like the Cotto Canelo fight or the Canelo Lara fight.

 

If anything, Canelo gets sold short.

I see way more posts about how many people have schooled him, are cherry picked, or have him running in fear than I do posts praising him.

 

He was a wonderkid of the Mexican boxing. He is tested, not like GGG.

 

Tested by who ? He has only fought smaller guys or dummies like Kirkland and Angulo.
